Cool Happy happy Days, Rolex Day-Date 1803 just arrived from the U.K. to KSA

    Hi all,

received my first gold Rolex in the post from the U.K. and I am very glad to say how happy I am with it! I am blown away with its beauty and presence on my wrist. It's just something special compared to a Stainless steel Rolex. I was a bit worried about this purchase initially (the bling factor and the sugar daddy image of them ) but I am very glad I went thought with it. This watches rock and are the quintessential Rolex IMO. They can be dressed up with bracelet or dressed down with strap to suit formal or casual attair.

The choice of an early 1803 over the newer semi quick setting and quick setting was due to the 1803's gorgeous vintage stepped pie-pan dials and thick acrylic crystals and their present value. The pie-pan dial on this watch is matt yellow, with black onyx and Arabic numbers. The president bracelet is in great condition with little stretch and overall the whole watch has been very lightly polished with thick lugs and edges. Even the bezel is super sharp so, not bad for a 40 plus year old 18 KT yellow gold watch. However, it does take a life time to set the watches day and date functions, be warned :-) The Spanish day make no difference to me and will not be set.

The watch was bought from Charles Fish London, and I can only express their super professionalism, service and give them full marks. Finally,If anyone is considering one of these early 1803 and has doubts go for it before they shoot up in price, get one and you won't be disappointed! Just be patient, choose carefully and do your homework, as there is a lot of rubbish ones out there also.

    Wrist shots

    Crystal

    Cheers,
    M

Both this and the new model are fantastic watches, congrats.

Have to say, I’d be tempted to source a correct date wheel - I’d at least have to set it, otherwise you could argue a Datejust could have done the job.

Love it ! Don't the Spanish day wheel make you wonder which Mexican drug lord this watch belonged to ?

Most people know Red Adair wore one of these when he was 'at the office'. Perhaps a less well known wearer was Larry Burrows - Vietnam war photographer. So, they can double up as a beater/toolwatch when needed.

Great watch so not surprising your happy!

I like that you picked up an older model as well, more character to them.

    Enjoy!

Great watch. Probably my next purchase but it is likely to take some time

Looks awesome. You should set the day though!

I purchased a DD recently, I haven't seen it in the metal yet. I cant wait to pick it up when I am back in the UK in September. Counting the days!

I am thinking the same - just need to find a quickset with a complete strap.

I just need to find the budget as my better half is pending it all on trivial stuff like a new bathroom, a complete repainting of all rooms, a new boiler and fixing an issue on the roof. That's 3 decent day date just there

I rather like the Spanish day wheel , I've only seen Spanish or English were there other languages produced ?

Perhaps Italian for the mafia image rather than the Mexican drug lord as mentioned - what would Tony Soprano choose ?

I think I remember reading that a lot of different languages have been done for the day wheel

    That is a beaut!

Not normally a fan of gold bracelets, but that seems to work.

She's a DOB 1977, last of the reference 1803 Day-Dates (DD) to be produced by Rolex, after this reference came the semi quick 18038's. IMO the later DD's 18038 etc do not have the character or vintage beauty with their flat smooth dials. A bit like early Omega SpeedMasters and their dials.
