    Red face Explorer on Everest

Along with a plethora of NATO straps and an Oyster Bracelet I found myself wanting to try a rubber strap for my 14270 Explorer. Had a dialogue with an Everest strap supplier who informed me that the Everest band would not be suitable for my 14270.

I did a quick search online and there was only 1 pic of an Explorer with a rubber strap on, I figured it could clearly be done and took the plunge ordering a strap suitable for the 14060, 16610, 16700, 16710, 16800 and the 16570.

The strap arrived this morning and with only a little modification went straight on, and as a benefit the clasp from my DSSD fits perfectly. Absolutely love the versatility of this watch and think that were I have to sell all my watches and keep just one I think this could be the watch to do it!!!

Next purchase for it will be a nice Alligator strap with a Rolex buckle to smarten the watch up.

Yep versatility is the EXP's vertue
    Sporty or casual

    Classy or smart / dress

Although many on here don't like the above look, I really do and surprised how well it works

    Was there a reason you didn't buy a made-to-measure Rubber B instead?

How did you work out which one would work?
    What "little modification" was required?
I have a 114270 and would also like to try a rubber strap. Mind I've not taken the bracelet off yet I like it that much :)
I'm with you, this could be the one ...

They didn't do one for the 36mm Explorer I either, the Everest were a bit cheaper ;-)

I bought one suitable for an Explorer II 40mm, I just had to sand paper away a bit of the rubber on the inside of the lug mount so it wouldst flush with the case and allow the pin to line up.

From here,http://stores.ebay.co.uk/OfficialTim...p2047675.l2563 They are listed for an EXP-II, but I took a punt on the 20mm width, and they fit perfectly, the spring bar is a heck of a job to get back in though, as it goes through the leather strap and simply push / holds the end link in place.

The strap is Alligator embossed Hirsch Duke and the Rolex pin buckle (blurry in the background) I got from my dad

Personally, I think an Explorer looks best by far on its original bracelet.

I have to agree. The 36mm looks GREAT on a nato but even greater on the original oyster IMO.

Beautiful watch and great that you have it in 36mm, the best configuration....
Must be a vast difference to your deepsea.
Have to say I prefer mine on the bracelet, classy, adaptable and understated.

Here's a photo of my explorer on a Rubber B strap for comparison (almost identical?!). In my opinion the utilitarian rubber strap fits the Explorer's image perfectly.

Yeah it looks great. I've just taken a picture of it in daylight as it looks better.

Also just ordered an aftermarket clasp, will see how that looks on arrival, because the DSSD that the current clasp is from may be leaving the fold to make way for something else very soon.

I completely agree. I'm sorry OP but it looks terrible on the rubber. Just my opinion.

Another vote for steel I'm afraid. But well done OP for the hack to make the rubber fit.

Well my sales thread for the NON OEM Rolex buckle was a bit of a fiasco so I've just brushed the item and fitted it on the rubber strap. I do not advocate fake items what so ever and had bought the clasp and was unaware that it had any Rolex branding on but when fitted on the rubber it looks pretty good and as for quality it feels alright too so 've just refitted my DSSD clasp back where it rightly beings and fitted the infamous (SC) clasp on my Explorer. Incidentally that thread is one of the longest I have ever created!!

Incidentally the clasp fits better being a bit shorter than the DSSD one, its just a shame it doesn't have the adjustment with the glidelock.

Agreed - always thought Rolex sports look good on rubber.
