    Hand wound chronographs?

I'm due an SOTC post having made a couple of purchases recently, but have been looking at my collection and I'm missing two things. A hand wound watch and a chronograph. Both of which I've owned in the past, but am now somehow without. I've been looking at Heuer Autavias (when did they get so damn expensive?) and speedmasters mainly, but interested to know what else is out there I'm overlooking.

I love a good picture thread - Interested to see what you've got!

Breitling 806 Navitimers are superb watches and, for now, can still offer decent value.

And a Val72 Heuer Camaro is another great watch, and can be picked up much cheaper than the Autavia with the same movement, but Camaro prices are definitely heading North.

I don't have one but I've always thought the sinn 103 with plexi would be a nice one to have
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

How about a MKII speedy - well under £2k for a nice example, cheaper for a non-racing dial

Could pick up a Bund at (still fairly) reasonable money

Breitling did some lovely manual wind chronographs in the 70's:

I've also got an Excelcior Park with the same movement. No pictures though!

I have a couple hand wound watches, the newest is not a chronograph but a mechanical alarm...

How about something with a Poljot 3133 movement inside? I've had a few...

Completely agree. This gets more wrist time then anything else in my collection.

There's some interesting Valjoux 773x chronographs out there at reasonable prices if you don't go for the famous brands.

This is one of my favourites at the moment:

Hand wound chronographs are wonderful watches; they are what make mechanical watches a joy to play with and admire.
I only have one hand wound chronograph and I quite like it. I have thoughts of replacing it with something else occasionally, but fail to think of any replacement.

We are all different and want different things. I wanted a Speedmaster and opted for the Snoopy because of the White dial, but the downside for me is the manual wind. I knew when I bought it that it was manual wind, but this was the first one that I have owned and it completely does my head in. At first I was affraid of over winding and the damn thing kept stopping, then when I gained the confidence and got to grips with the wind I just plain forget to do it. The power reserve is superb, supposed to be 48 hours, but I fully wound it and let it run to stop and it lasted 51 hours 15 mins. Having owned many other watches I have decided that automatic is for me and I have never had any issues with them. That is why I am now looking to move the Snoopy on. I did own a Speedmaster automatic and would rather have that than the Snoopy - crazy as that may sound.

A hand wound movement adds a touch of class to certain chronographs, I think...

    Here are a few

    Omega speedmaster

    German Issued Bund Hanhart 417

A cool hand wind Sinn with a 7760 movement mite be a cheaper one to get.

Heuer Bund about the best price bet for a vintage Heuer chronograph

Some vintage Tissot chronographs a lot of different models can still be got cheap read some were the movement in this one close to the 863 movement.

I'll second the suggestion of a Poljot. These Strelas used to be available for around $400 (£300). I think they're closer to $700 (£525) now when you can find them, but still very affordable and well made for a Russian product.

This is spot on. For me, a significant part of the pleasure of my Speedie is picking it up in the morning, and taking a couple of minutes to pause, look at the watch, feel the weight in my hand and think of nothing else but turning the crown those 20 - 24 times to give it the energy for the day.

Love a hand wound. This thread is picture-tastic, and giving me so many ideas to put on my wish list! Keep them coming please.....

It is tough to beat an Autavia and once you've got one you'll want more!

Edit: Although this one is automatic of course, I'm not sure why I had a temporary brain fade there! :)

This would get my vote- a Stowa 1938 Bronze with the movement adapted by Stowa to manual wind-with some personalisation on the bridge work to make it yours. These are quite stunning when seen in the metal.

Yada, yada, yada. I could post up all the usual stuff, but OP, most of those Heuers etc are just filled up with the sort of Val movements found in cheaper "no name" models that can be purchased far more cheaply.

Alternatively why not get a bit saucy, interesting and different with one of these in-house beauties........

    Cheers,
    Neil.

Lots of food for thought in this thread. Definitely going to be heading down the vintage route - some stunning Speedmasters and Breitlings in particular. I've been checking out the normal places and the vintage stuff seems to have a huuuuuge markup. Is this a game of patience to find a good example at the right price?

I am rather fond of my 42mm Strela. I've owned a 38mm one before and it was a nice watch, but I think the 42mm version is better in a number of respects. One of my favourite things is the extra markers at 3, 6 and 9 minutes on the chrono minutes register, which really improve readability. Those are present on the original 3017 dials, but not on any of the other 3133 reissues as far as I know.

I wouldn't mind an original 3017 Strela but there are just too many frankens about for my liking, it's too much of a minefield.

Navitimer (or better still, a Cosmonaute ) is a great choice

I've also got this rather nice MOD with a 7734 movement, which was a LOT cheaper!

Of course, the elephant in the room is the Omega Speedmaster...
