Not a military issued watch either. Sort of a "commemorative" or theme watch. The Russians will put any logo n the dial, so there is a zillion different "unit" or "service" watches. These watches are flooding the market. Beware of Chinese/Turkish replicas of lower standard.

As for the technology, a question that others can answer better.

I was surprised to learn this myself, although, on second thought, I am not sure that the warning of cheap replicae is not a marketing trick to push "genuine" Russian watches (i.e. those sold by the person spreading the warning).

On the other hand, some of the handwound Russian movements are solidly Swiss designed and quite good. Not to the standard of an IWC or Rolex, mind you, but they can probably hold their own compared with, say, you average American mil-watch.

Yep, that's right. I quite like some of the Russian picture dials although that KGB one is a bit OTT for me.

The Amphibia is a lot of watch for the money though. A 31 jewel auto, 200M water-resistant for £29! how can you say "no" to that? :D

I think Roy may have some of the plainer looking ones left if you want one.
