name down for the new Rolex Explorer 214270

Well. It could be a wait, but I have my name down for the Basel 2016 Explorer from Rolex with the all filled in indices and slightly modified hands. If anyone has spotted the new version out there do pm me? Thanks guys

I think it is small, but significant improvements on the current model.

    Martyn

I was in Liverpool today and looked in the windows of David M Robinson and Goldsmiths (both Liverpool One). I did see a large Explorer One, I think it was at David M Robinson, but I wasn't particularly paying attention to that model, but it did look big. No guarantees that it is the latest model, but it might be worth giving them a ring.

I'm down for one. As recently as this morning local AD said they still don't have a date (hey, I just did a pun by accident!).

Will let you know when I hear more...

Very frustrating - An AD has one in stock but I can't get to them easily and they can't (won't) post out.... tantalising or what

Thanks! But seems cost of travel is quite a bit less than cost of insured postage so probably heading up north on Saturday. Depending..

Well done - did you just ring around? Sounds like the first positive sighting in the UK?

That's good news. Surely they would take a deposit by debit card etc over the phone and hold it for you until you can arrange collection. At least that way you know the watch is yours and has been removed from sale. Apologies if you have already done this.

So (now it's yours, and safe from us lot), who got the early stock?

TBH, when I looked at this model in the hand, I was completely, utterly, underwhelmed. I wanted to love it and say it's the perfect Rolex, but I preferred the Mk1 39mm dial, with the large 3,6,9 in white gold. The way the 3,6,9 are executed on the new one just didn't look nice to me; very much like the 3,6,9 on the Black Bay Bronze from Tudor.

I know it's a different price point, but when you compare the arabics to something like the Aquanaut, it just looks so much worse. It also seemed to make the watch look fat.

It's all personal preference of course, but I never really had an issue with the original Mk1; it's a fantastic watch. Lately I've seriously toyed with the idea of buying a Mk1 before the new model completely replaces the old stock.

EDIT: there's a pic in this thread... Thoughts and images of the Baselworld 2016 Rolex and Tudor models

    And more fun!

I purchased a T-Rex Explorer from Dipples in Norwich, presumably as per the Rolex AD rules they couldn't post it out so I put a deposit down over the phone and drove up from Hampshire. As it turned out it was a lovely sunny day, I had the roof off the car, took my time on a leisurely drive up to Norwich, collected the watch, took the GF for a meal, it was a good day out and we did something similar collecting a Cartier for her 50th. The whole experience was far more pleasurable than phoning an AD and anxiously waiting by the door for a delivery van.

Hope you have a safe and pleasant journey to get the watch, keep us updated.

Was talking to the guy in Laings Glasgow back in June and he said they were expecting them July - August.

Took a walk down yesterday and I see they have just received the older version to sell.

New model secured. Just got to get up north to pick it up now. Probably a train ride - I just don't trust the M25 these days.

I'll let you know how I find it. But thanks for your honest post. I have seen the 39mm MKI but was put off by the lack of lume. I am now waiting in trepidation to actually see the MKII with the lumed 3,6,9.

Brillant Martyn. Looking forward to the pics. Hope you don't get a nosebleed going up north

Lucky dog! Can't wait to see pics.

I can see why the arabics might divide opinion, but personally I really couldn't get on with the old all gold on my wrist when I tried it - just looked too dressy and glitzy for me personally.

Looking forward to seeing the new one and reading your thoughts. I think the lumed arabics will bring it back to the original concept aways.

Nice watch, looks so much better with the infill on the 3,6 & 9 numbers.

I take it the trip 'up north' was worth it then...

That is just lovely Martyn. Perfect daily wear watch.

    Enjoy it!

Really looks superb. I like smaller watches, for non divers, and thought it might look a bit bloated. My fears are definitely unfounded 😁 Looking forward to a few more snaps!

Birmingham Friday 8th July, both Goldsmiths and Watches of Switzerland quoting September. A general enquiry rather than placing an order. Goldsmiths did have the new Air-King in the window.

Update>Please be aware a member has contacted the TORQUAY branch and some confusion has arisen as to availability of this piece. Genuinely sorry if I've passed on duff info. I'll leave the original details.

Torquay Goldsmiths have the new Explorer. I don't think it's on display so if you go in, ask.

01803 292514. Ask for Abi or Mike and if you buy it, please mention me. I'm trying to move up the list for a couple of watches ;)
