    Rolex classic...

I've had many Datejusts and tbh all were very nice too.

But the one here that I have just bought is by far the best ever.

1/64 case back on a USA Jubilee bracelet and impeccable dial and hands and case.

Must be my age, but Datejusts are growing on me. Mind you, I would be using them as dress watch.....(clings on to his youth)

Looks great, really makes me want to find a blue faced datejust.

Just zoomed in on the picture. That is indeed an absolutely perfect dial and handset!

Agreed, the classic Rolex and still very accessible in either vintage or modern form.

Mine is the perfect combo of vintage and modern with the plexi, tritium dial and open 6/9 datewheel BUT also has the quickset date.

The textured 'silk' dial made it just perfect and different from the norm :)

The classic DateJust and some lovely examples in this thread.

I'd be interested to know if you wear these as 'dress' watches or as 'daily' or 'casual' watches.

Would you buy a dress watch as well as a DateJyst in this configuration or is the DateJust dressy enough.

I'm kind of feeling a little love for DJs but the jubilee bracelets just never look as good as the oyster style to me. Not mad about the fluted bezels either. Conclusion is that's a cracking example and I'm a bit of a heathen.

Strictly a casual watch for me, but that's because I keep it on a bracelet; 'dress' watches are on leather straps.

Oyster bracelet and smooth bezel is still a gorgeous watch. Jubilee and WG fluted is the classic DJ look for me though.

Hard to beat as all-rounders, they're as happy with jeans and t-shirt as with a shirt and suit. Mine tends to get worn as a daily watch, if only because it's never out of place.

My next purchase will hopefully be 116234 silver dial with fluted bezel and oyster bracelet. Best combo and most versatile one watch option imo. Utterly gorgeous...

I was absolutely 100% convinced that I wouldn't like them - far too blingy. In the flesh though the PCLs are fine and they complement the fluted bezel a treat. I'm quite sure they will be scratch magnets though but I've accepted that.

Here's one that I now really regret selling.

A 1603 with the engine turned bezel and oyster bracelet.

It was in gorgeous condition, full set box and docs and I sold it for a pittance. I'm sure you know the pain.

The opening of that Hodinkee article shows what a goldfish bowl they live in: "Ask any watch guy about Rolex, and chances are you'll get regaled with stories about rare vintage Daytonas or the high-tech, bi-color Cerachrome bezels on the new GMT."

Also: notice how many pieces from them start by talking about themselves and their little society?

It is a classic, but not in the sense of the dive range, which seem to still compete head to head for attention with the new ceramic offerings.

The Datejust in the OP is just too small and well, dated and often tatty looking, it will soon only be seen on the wrists of old men.

Nothing wrong with admiration, but watches have moved on now. No doubt the revised Datejust will prove to be as popular as the previous one.

This for example - plenty of original DNA, super comfy bracelet and 41mm...

I reckon that the 36 mm DJs will age far better than their 41mm cousins.

Indeed. The current 36mm maxi case DJ is the perfect size for most wrists IMO.

The one in the OP is dated 1964.

It looks like it comes from 1964.

Who knows what the 41mm will look like in over 50 years.

Unless I develop 'gland problems' or spectacularly let myself go, my wrist is going to be a similar size in 50 years time so in 2066 a DJ2 will still look rediculous on me.

No comment on the OP but I agree that a tatty vintage DJ isn't anything to wow over. I had a very tidy 1601 from 1971 (head only) and it was a beautiful thing. Size wise it was perfect too.
