Thread: New guy saying hi!

    New guy saying hi!

    Hi,

I guess you get some of these threads. I am sorry if it disturbs you! Anyway, I just wanted to present myself and my watches and I hope that is ok.

My interest in watches started of for real when I got my first nice watch - a Tudor Pelagos. It is an awesome watch. The dial, bezel and indices are just amazing and the AR is equally great!

After the Pelagos I tried a GMT, Explorer and than a Sub. In many aspects I like the Pelagos better, the bezel, dial, indices and the luminova is in my opinion way better. I really like the matte finish. However, the Pelagos is a bit too high to wear with suit so I settled with the Sub

I then got myself some vintage watches, mainly because they were cheaper than new watches.

First out was a Zenith Port Royal Quartz. A really cheap but lovely piece that I wear every now and then.

The second vintage watch was an Omega Speedmaster 145.022 (80 something). I really love this one and will only sell it if I find a nice 145.022-69 at a reasonable price... (good luck to me ;) )

The third was an Omega dress watch (don't remember the reference), but the dial just had me at hello. The tropical "gold-flake" dial is just a stunner :)

I did however not have a dress watch with a bright dial, which we all know is mandatory ;) Luckily I found this lovely Tissot from 1957 with a lovely dial and a charming date complication. Since Tissot is also very cheap, why not complete my collection? Said and done. After a well-needed service, it will now serve as a wedding watch when I get married in 1 week :)

So now I had a nice collection, but something was not right. It was like the old Swedish children television program where one of the objects does not fit with the other ones. Well, the only modern watch was the Sub. And as my farther says; there is no soul in new houses. I realised that I have the same kind of feeling for new watched. They are great and looks awesome in pictures, but they are kind of dead when I use them. They are just a watch, while a vintage watch for me is so much more then a watch. Just like old houses, old watched carries a story that makes it more than the parts it consists of. A nice bonus is that you don't get the same attention from wearing a vintage Tudor Submariner 7928 from 1966 as you do from a new shiny Sub. Just look at this piece, absolutely stunning condition with the glossy dial, clear bevels, a fat-font long-five insert and a C+I Riverted bracelet with close to no stretch. Just love the little rose :)

Now I guess though that the cheaper-than-new-watches argument starts not to hold... ;)

And a collective picture of three of the watches:

In sum, I found a great interest in vintage watches, which I now realise is not very good for the private economy, but it is so much fun :)

I hope you like my watches and I hope that I will be able to add something to the forum. Even though I am new to watches, I have been hanging around for a while at another watch forum so I might have some knowledge to share sometime ;)

Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

    /Andersbackstrom

Great collection, I especially like the faded dial of the Omega and the Sub looks well on the fabric strap.

Get a bezel pip for the Tudor though please :)

    Thanks also @legin :)

Thanks everyone! I try to get a bezel pip but it is not easy to find... What is a reasonable price and where to find one?

Thanks! Yes I think the collection will be expanded a bit. Now I am after a cool vintage 60-70's Diver like the Aqualung or a more colourful chronograph like this one:

Thanks! I am a bit into the Nomos Metro 38mm. It is quite unique and, I believe, is a watch that I would not get tired of. Otherwise, I guess I would only get a new watch if I wanted a new beater (which is now a really beaten up Orient Ray Raven)...

^^ all of the above re welcome and great watches. Completely agree re vintage v new; cars too.

Love the rallye straps. Where did you find them?

The gray is bought from http://kvistvik.se/collections/klockarmband (in swedish) and the brown is from https://www.instagram.com/petjyr/

They both can make special order straps. The latter actually only makes straps on special order.

Not very expensive. Approx GBP30 for the brown and GBP60 for the gray. The kvistvik guy have better finish but is also more expensive. I have bought many straps from Petjyr. A very good and reliable guy, but as I said, the quality is not allways the best. Five out of the six straps I have bought from him have been good though!

They look like they should be much more expensive! Thanks for that, will look into them.

Thanks! Do that. I like them a lot :)
Here is a picture on all my racing straps. All but the grey are made by Petjyr. However, the finish on the grey is definitely better.

Thanks! I am very happy owning these watches :) However, compared to many other collections, mine is very humble. In all fairness, the Pelagos was the first watch that made the interest for real watches to increase. I did have a couple of perfume watches before though....

Welcome Anders, that's a nicely balanced collection. As you say, a splash of colour now required!
