The Last Dreadnought, 200/200 goes up for auction

I see Watches of Knightsbridge has this up for aution, in what is a very interesting catalogue full of fascinating watches.

However, I also note that many of the prices they achieve seem to speak of very excitable bidders in the capital.

Is that sort of buyers premium (21%) normal for this sort of auction? Ouch.

I would love that at perhaps £1500 but surely nobody will cough that much up taking the BP into account,or will they ?

They were fetching a lot more a couple of years ago than they do now , I think 2250 was the record.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I'm surprised the original owner parted with it.

To be fair, would anyone here pay that much?

I know there's an etiquette not to profit on SC items, but if someone buys a watch new and it appreciates in value, I don't see any problem with selling on the open market.

I guess he could have tried first, but still...

How do you know it is being sold by the original owner? And how do you know who the original owner is anyway? I would have thought Eddie would be the only person to know that unless is a poster on here?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

You haven't been a member here for long enough to have seen the posts at the original unveilings.

The original owner has mentioned it more than once.

To be clear I don't have a problem with him asking whatever he wants, just out of my limit that's all, would have loved it.
Wish him luck with the auction.

I don't think the auction estimate is an outrageous starting price on the open market . Its only as a buyer adding on the 20% buyers premium on it at auction that seems to make it expensive. Mind you, a prs17q made a touch over 260 on eBay last night! i think the last dreadnought listed on sc here struggled too make 1850.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

Re ownership, I was pleased to see that the old 'site is still up: http://www.prs2dreadnought.com/england.htm

    Did you see Lot 207?

Yes the Precista is probably estimated fair enough - but there's a CWC diver in there too which seems to have a very high estimate indeed.

    Thougt I'd share this

Hello, long time lurker, first time poster. I hope this is appropriate - a few days ago, a Dreadnought appeared on willhaben.at (Austrian Craigs List)
Just search for "Dreadnought", I find the price really hefty, but maybe its interesting for someone willing to spend that amount. (not me)

See link; "Preis = Verhandlungsbasis" translates as "Price = Price negotiable".
