It is things like this that devalue the 'premium luxury' image that Omega like to purvey IMHO.

These seem to lack all traces of 'understated quality' that a premium brand should have, even with the more 'showy' models in the range. The Speedy is just about OK.

    Not for me.

Yes, I like it too, but wouldn't pay a premium; According to their website it's €5500 where as the nicer racing dial version is €5300

Tried to do a deal with a pawn broker for the Speedy Rio not long ago, but couldn't get the figures right.

I think the different colour subdial rings really lift what is otherwise a fairly dull watch.

Got me wondering if I should revisit the deal.....

Mk2 looks ok but I think the Olympic models always lose big time

Why do Omega persist in rolling out these "Special Editions" of so many of their watches be it Snoopy, Bond or Olympic.

Really cheapens the brand imo and holds no interest for me.

They do this every Olympics and none of the models ever become rare or collectable.... Idiocy is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I believe Einstein said that. I believe he was right.

The Speedy is just about passable but the others are hideous.

The speedy is ok, the bullhead is too niche and the 300M is just grim.

I'm in agreement with your comment, whist the launch of these watches may grab a few headlines they may serve to undermine the brand.

Looking unlikely but if the Olympics are moved there will be some bargains to be had.

    I really like the SMP.

The Seamaster Bullhead chrono looks awful. I have a vintage one currently with Omega at Bienne for a service.

Limited edition of 3016 pieces (not 2016) - a case of greed over logic?

haha, this is an excellent point. There is no logic to make it 3016. 216. 20016 (low for an Omega LE ) but 3016 makes no sense.

The Speedmaster looks quite nice IMO. Not so sure about the rainbow numbers on the SMP.

I think the speedy is nice, not sure about the rest

Omega are turning into the 'new' Seiko - multiple releases, in multiple colours, some fantastic but the vast majority absolutely heinous. There is a difference though - most of the horrible Seiko's cost a couple of hundred quid whereas the Omega equivalents cost thousands. Interesting how Rolex just don't do limited editions at all, (unless you count limiting supply of steel Daytonas!) - very different marketing strategies

I'm going to go against the grain here. I sometimes get sick of black dial, steel watches all the time and like a bit of colour. I'm not a fan of the Mkii, but, having actually seen the Seamaster 300M in reality, I thought it was a nice alternative to the standard model. The Bullhead, I'm not so sure about but I think a different strap could make me like that too. Each to their own I suppose :-)

Not a big hit then? LOL!
I bought mine last year, and had been on the lookout for that model since I saw the first advertisement. It was the extra dash of colour, and the obvious use of gold, silver and bronze for the sub dials which made perfect sense for an Olympic celebration watch.

I took a look at one of these in a dealers last year and I like the fact that there's no special edition text-nonsense on the dial, but I thought the gold and bronze looked very similar in terms of colour.

If football is more your thing then have a look at this beauty, yours for a measly £20k.

    Why

The general feeling seems to be that these limited editions are a non starter for most which echo my feelings. Take a good piece and spoil it, I have never come across anyone wearing one and find it hard to believe they are sold. I wondered if most are given out as gifts in the corporate world. The Speedy 2 is about the best I have seen of this type of merchandising in my view.

Some one made an apt comment yesterday re Rolex and the reason they are so timeless is their glacial slow development.

If Rolex change like a glacier then omega are more like an ice cube these days.

That type of spin is like when on sales corner a seller tells you the watch he I selling is a rare desirable watch and justifies the high price of his loose watch as he saw one sell on eBay that was fully serviced with papers etc for the same money.

The MK2 looks pretty reasonable, not a massive departure from the original but a nice subtle change with an obvious link to the olympics. The rest are garish and obnoxious, I'd be surprised if they can sell them

I've had a good look at Tim's MkII LE at GTGs before now, and it is really lovely.
A very understated LE, and all the better for it.

It appears the addition of olympic colours is carried over to their 2018 winter Olympics range too:
