i want to get a watch casebook engraved. any recommendations?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
Unless you are Jack Nicholson I'd avoid having your name engraved on a watch......
When I had my SMP done Dave I just found a local jewellery/trophy engraver to do it.

For casebook read caseback?
I've not used him myself, but I made a note of Photoicon when I went to 36 Hatton Garden.
Thanks for your replies everyone. I'm not jack Nicholson and the engraving isn't for me, its for a present for someone for a significant birthday.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
I tried searching the forum for threads asking this - scarcely any recommendations to be found.
Perhaps a source of recommendations would be a shop selling sports trophies - they must have to use engravers all the time?
I thought this was nicely done: http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...back-Engraving
may I suggest 'time is on the other side'
I had one of mine laser engraved by Andrew Micheals jewellers in Newark, Nottinghamshire.
Did an excellent job.

I'm as you call it,stuck with it.
It was bought when my father passed away 2 months ago.
My dad,my son and I all have the same initials, and our dates of birth are on there as well.
Cheers.
Col, as you know I’ve seen your special watch in the flesh and it looks stunning.
When I say special, it commemorates dates which are very personal to you and it has been planned and executed in a very subtle way.
Grand Troll would struggle to put any memorable dates on a watch of his own, as his conception is a blur, probably in a laboratory.
A) I kinda doubt anyone in their right mind would give you much, ruined or otherwise.
B) No matter what you think to engraving, when something is clearly sentimental re dates, how about taking a deep breath, putting the deliberately obnoxious to one side for a second and saying nothing rather than being gleefully insensitive.
You giant miserly ass.

Whoever did the engraving on that Breitling did a great job. Not an easy thing to accomplish nicely.
GrandS, you've finally fallen flat on your face.
I think this is a very touching tribute, and will remain very special and personal to whoever is the "current" user as it goes through the generations.
Good for you.
I think the link to the above show good engravings - I'd be happy with the quality of either. I always liked the idea of the globe on the Explorer, or a Nautical theme on a Submariner.
It's just a matter of time...
There was a thread on MWR about this DSSD recently, came up on eBay:
I suppose there are two ways to approach having a pre-owned watch. One is that it's a cheaper way of acquiring something current: in such an instance, you're trying to forget that someone owned it before you, and so an engraving would be actively unhelpful. (If the model is discontinued then it's probably the only way of acquiring one, but the approach ends up being the same)
The other is to be aware of the watch's history before you came to own it, and to be appreciative of who owned it and why, etc. In this approach, an engraving adds to the watch and to your appreciation of it and your understanding of its history. For example, I'm positively glad to have this personal inscription on the back of this early sixties gold Longines:
(Not the greatest photo, sorry)
I looked into getting a Datejust engraved prior to my wedding a couple of years ago. It had just been serviced not long before but both the Jewellers I spoke to (both were ADs) told me they would have to service it again as part of the process as the back would need to be removed. The woman from Goldsmiths also told me the back would be removed and sent away to their engraver while the rest of the watch sat in their safe for a few weeks. I didn't bother in the end!

If resale was a real worry could you just get a replacement back engraved. Keep the original one in the box.
Just for the signature
I hope you'll find someone who can do a good job Dave, is Carl not an option?
Not everybody is a WIS and thinks about profits and resale, the person receiving it might even think it's a nice touch
Daddel.
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Contact R&A Giddings in London for any engraving needs. Bob is a great guy and you can visit his workshop to discuss your requirements.
