RIP Archie - A sad farewell.

Last Friday my wife and I came home from the vets without Archie for the last time.

It's been an honour and a pleasure to have had him in our lives for so long.

A huge part of our lives for almost 16 years.

    Run free Archie - July 12 2000 - May 06 2016.

    I don't have any more words. :(

These threads always make me feel sad because the loss of a pet is heart-wrenching. They give unconditional love and make few demands. Little wonder we love them more than most humans. I can't say anything to make you feel better, I just feel for you.

Gutted for you. I still remember each day when my childhood dogs died yet have very fond memories of all the other days.

Just over a year since I lost my 4yr old Springer, my older dog still keeps us company but I still think a lot about the one I lost...

    Heartfelt commiserations mate.

Speaking as someone who is just starting out their relationship with a furry friend, we all know it's inevitable and part of the deal but I don't envy the day.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

All the above and more. I know words will never be enough, but I'm sure you've done the right thing by your Archie. Its absolutely awful the trip to the vets, knowing whats coming.

16 years of love and affection from yourself and family is all he would have wanted, and I'm sure you've given it in abundance.

You don't need anymore words Tom

You've given a truly fitting obituary to your very wonderful and loyal friend I'm sure.

Most Dogs are there for our benefit and to give us joy. I'm quite confident Archie will have done that every day. Know that you and your good lady gave him all the very best in return, and the ultimate service, to help him in his time of need.

Shed many tears Tom and Mrs Tom, just as many of us on here have done before you, and will again, but be proud too of your role as a devoted couple. I, and my dog loving family, offer you our support and shared knowledge of this horrid pain.

This is exactly why I can't have any more pets. I simply cannot stand it when they die.

Sorry to hear of your loss, it must be very tough.

I'm dreading the day we lose Boris, just hoping he gets as good an innings as Archie.

My sincere condolences as well Tom. Think of the good moments and joy you and your friend have enjoyed together. He will always live in yours and your wife thoughts. It will get less acute with time, not much I can say either..

My thoughts are with you as I too have had the feeling of going to the vets and not returning with my beloved dog l.

As a dog lover and owner , we all are upset and say never again but when you can get such joy and friendship from owning a dog and giving him/her a great life .

Again I hope and wish you all the best and sorry for your loss .

The loss of a dog is a sickening heart wrenching time, reading your post brings a lump to my throat because it throws me back to when we lost our Westie a few years ago. All the best FFF

What a handsome hound. You gave him a wonderful home for all of his sixteen years, cared for him and always did the right thing for him. In return he gave you unconditional love. They really do enrich our lives. Rest in peace, Archie.

A handsome lad, hang in there. In time you'll be able to remember fondly your time together. He'll always be with you.
I lost my girl last year and every weekend I do the same walks with my boy (and new girl) that we did together. I remember her every step of the way, memories are everywhere. It's painful but I love her as much today as I did when she was with us.
