    Put your hand up

If you seriously think (like I do) that British watches are as disgusting as the British food, of course I'm not talking about what the Swiss have produced for the RAF.

    Anyone?

What's disgusting about a Smiths watch?

Perhaps you could explain what you find disgusting about British watches?

This is the first post you’ve started out of Sales Corner/Wanted to Buy/Heroes & Villains since September 2014 and you insult the owner of the site.

    Good move!

I am curious as well. Many watches leave me cold, but I wouldn't class them as disgusting, unless there is some history or really hideous design is involved. Just saying.

I think you might have to specify a little, because there's more than one style of watch has come out of the UK in the last few hundred years. As it stands, you have said something so vague as to be pretty pointless. So who have you got in mind, or is it just a sweeping generalisation?

More amusingly, you do realise that many of the 'Swiss watches produced for the RAF' were in British cases, and some had British movements?

I assumed this thread was simply the latest excuse to give Bremont a good old-fashioned kick in the c***, and we're all for that.

You need to complete the puzzle in the sticky thread in the other part of the forum to get access to the sales forum.

It was Christmas. I was walking across the vast plain. The snow was like glass. It was cold. The air was lifeless. No movement, not a sound. The horizon was round. The sky black. The stars dead. The moon carried to its grave yesterday. The sun not risen. I screamed. I could not hear myself. I screamed again. I saw a body lying on the snow. It was the Christ child. Its limbs white and rigid. Its halo a yellow frozen disc. I took the child in my hands. I moved its arms up and down. I opened its lids. It had no eyes. I was hungry. I ate the halo. It tasted like old bread. I bit his head off. Old marzipan. I continued on my way.

So, you don't like the look of British cases, but can you tell the difference between a British case and a not British case?

I like my Bremont MB2 - I think it was mainly the marketing dept and special editions that get kicked .

I dont dislike all of them but most of them it is a matter of (good) taste, for instance I love the PRS29A, CWC 1970's chrono and a few more

Look at those wrists, hardly a watch to be seen. I rather think we're a dying breed.

That's a slightly less inflammatory thread title.

'Hands up if you like some British watches but don't like others'...

Mind you, the PRS29A has its faults. I have found that mine aged incredibly quickly and now looks more like it's really been issued.

Mind you, that was one of Eddie's early tritium models. I hear the Luminova is more stable.

I suppose in the sense that Heston Blumenthal is a world-renowned terrible cook, Roger Smith is a similarly awful watchmaker (there aren't any other 100% British watchmakers to criticise unfortunately).

So you started a thread on a watch forum by making a silly comment, contributed nothing and feel proud of yourself?

To be fair serving chips with mayonnaise was a culinary masterstroke. And Belgium were kind enough to allow the British army to use their country for our "home" matches to avoid spoiling our own countryside, so we owe them a debt of gratitude at least.
