Great story and a very handsome watch.
For all of the 20 years I've known my father-in-law he's worn a lovely little blue dial, hand-wound 1970s Seiko. He said he'd leave it to me in his will and I was delighted that it would stay with me and his daughter.
However a few weeks ago it stopped working and he said he wasn't interested in having it repaired as it cost him £3 over 40 years ago and he's had his money's worth out of it.
He gave it to me and said I could do what I wanted with it.
So off it went to our very own Brendan (Webwatchmaker).
The diagnosis was a broken main spring and Brendan told me the movement, although a little oxidised, was in outstanding condition considering the age of it and the fact that it had never been opened or repaired since it left Seiko all those years ago.
Brendan duly replaced the main spring, cleaned up the movement and the case and bracelet - there was forty odd years of DNA lurking about!
Brendan pointed out that the crown is very small and could be difficult to wind so returned the watch to me along with a piece of fabric against which you roll the crown to wind it - genius!
The lovely little thing has kept both charge and excellent time since I've had it back. I'm delighted to have the watch to wear in happier circumstances than I ever imagined and my wife is delighted that the only watch her father has ever owned is now with us to enjoy. And when I say 'us' I mean us as it's the perfect size for her to wear too.
I've asked him if he wants it back and, fortunately, he said no.
This is the first time I've used Brendan and I have to say that he's a wonderful bloke; engaging, explanatory, thorough, quick and reliable and a good laugh! I'll certainly be using you again Brendan.
So, here's a few pics to finish with:

Great story and a very handsome watch.
Lovely story :)
My Dad used to have a Rolex when I was a kid, but unfortunately he had reason to sell it when he and Mum divorced. Leaves it to me to get one for my son to inherit ;)
Like that a lot David.Great story.Very nice indeed.
Great story and a great watch David!
Lovely looking dial with no horrid date window to spoil its symmetry and clean lines
Presuming that's a 7000-8000 I've the grey and white versions of that. Fantastic watches, one in particular is still keeping exceptionally good time for a 46 year old cheap watch. The winding *is* a challenge to my poor fingers though ;) And the grey is very very readable

Lovely story and perfect watch: accurate, strong brand, elegant design, clear reading and..... inexpensive.
I loved the £3 price tag detail.
:-)
Nice watch
Very elegant looking.
£3 thats about £41 today.
Great watch and obviously a great movement.
And a form of recycling we need to get back to when we fixed things and not throw away.
Great stuff - lovely to own a watch with an "emotional" connection.
fantastic work, Brendan worked on my late mother in laws watch after she passed away, it had taken water damage and lay in a drawer for years, it came back as good as new.
Very nice watch!
Very nice, a model I've never seen before but a very smart one.
Nice work and story. It looks great, I'm quite a fan of the earlier 66 8050's and 40's, this looks pretty similar.
Thanks for the kind words folks, it's running really well and is a pleasure to wear. I've got a matt alligator black strap on the way so I'll post a pic once it's on.
A rather nice Condor 18mm matt black alligator with grey stitch:
