If they thought it thro' they'll get a few quid for the watch. It's stolen, no B&P (altho' that can prob be fixed) so £500? They could have walked in and 'suggested' he hand them the watch as opposed to aggravated robbery or whatever the charge would be.

Lucky he didn't put up much of a fight. I suspect it could have been a lot worse for the guy.

Thats scary! I hope he had insurance.. Who knows it could have been planned or a spontaneous thing.. I always wondered how safe it is to wear flashy expensive watches on a daily basis

Wrong place, wrong time. I lost an IWC at a gym. An opportunist saw it, popped the locker open and the watch was in Manchester a few hours later.

Dirty thieving b@stards. Hope they are found and punished accordingly. Sadly, they probably will be found, but not punished sufficiently.

Scumbags. Hope they catch them soon.

I don't understand what was meant by him fundraising to get a new one though? I'm assuming they didn't mean a community event type thing?!

Looks as good as CCTV pics as you get & this story seems to be getting a lot of exposure. Hopefully they'll catch those two scum bags.

The video is now on the national news, so I reckon they will be caught by the end of the day. Can't be too soon.
On a practical note, this horrid incident confirms my belief that wearing a yellow gold Rolex may not be a good idea in these crime-ridden days. White gold or even platinum will be less 'obvious'. Sad to say things like that, but there you are....

I didn't quite get the comment below. Although it's a shocking attack that he shouldn't have been subjected to,I do hope that this doesn't me he expects people to give him money to replace it.

"'I will never be able to afford another one,' James said of the prized Yachtmaster, but he plans to fundraise enough money so he can replace it."

Surely he would have had it insured?

I think driving round in an Aston Martin might be what got him targeted in the first place.......and as for not being able to afford to replace it, give me a break......driving around and maintaining afore mentioned Aston, means he's talking bollox

Doesn't make the crime less disgusting though

Are you thinking insurance job? Watching the video again the muggers don't actually do anything to him apart from loosely grab him.

I am a tad unwilling to denounce this in case I am wrong and I am maligning a victim of crime.

    But seeing as you ask.......
It all looks very staged. I cannot believe that any seasoned crim would recognise a gold Rolex yet be unaware of the concept of CCTV. I was suspicious of the victim's intention of fundraising a replacement Rolex. And the violence doesn't look right to me.
I'm thinking put-up job. But as I say, could be wrong.
I must admit I am struggling to explain the arrest, though he does look a bit like Bob Mortimer.

What you may not have realised is that most criminals are bloody stupid. It's not like on the telly, where cigar-puffing masterminds plot ingenious heists from their basement lair, and leather-clad athletes dangle from a steel wire through the skylight, hacking into computerised security systems.

The reality is much more likely to be a desperate-looking bloke grabbing the watch off your wrist to fund his next fix, or a teenage scrote smashing your front window and having it away with your PlayStation. Criminals don't really think through the consequences of their actions, or they wouldn't be criminals in the first place. Prison is full of people with very little foresight.

Do you think the victim will ever forget what happened to him, or will ever feel really safe again?

Looks like the skull breaks the bracelet when removing it, not exactly great when trying to sell it on. That's good he had cctv to catch these scumbags. This is why in Britain, criminals should be executed it would soon put people off and save lawyers charging a fortune to the state to defend their friends who commit these horrible crimes. Always keep my watch hidden, it's stainless steel and I drive a 6 year old VW so I'm not obvious target. Poor chap hope he recovers ok.
