    Which Harley Would You Buy?

If you were going to buy a Harley used for under 10k which would it be and why?

A 1970's electra glide, cool as a cucumber as well as being the same colour. I'd change the exhausts to something more sensible though :)

The one which says Honda on the tank.

As above, the only one I lust is a blacked out 48. I could also be tempted to stretch the budget a couple of thousand to a breakout. You in buying mode?

Depends on your aspirations I guess. HD is the epitome of marketing, of sizzle over steak.

Personally it would have to be a 45. Utterly useless but lovely.

Modern Harley's mostly say 'retired dentist' to me.

^^^This just about sums it up.
Poor handling, unreliable and apalling range.....Look cool though....

Made me laugh that..... How about buying my fireblade (if you're man enough eh? ;-)) £7k and proper grin factor!

I was recently having my car valeted at a place next to the Reading H D dealership. In the 45 minutes or so i was there i watched all the old guys being dropped off by there wives to collect there bikes or go for test drives. It amazed me how many of them were literally struggling to get out of there cars and walk un assisted. My guess was the average age would be 65+.

Roadking or Street Glide in black cherry.

Most bikers will take the piss out of HD but I rode a Electraglide around Southwest USA and it was fun to ride

As much as I like HD's in standard form I'd be looking at Sleadhead Custom Cycles for a bobber

I have had a V-Rod (VRSCF) for the last 4 years/18k miles and no plans to change it (I do have other bikes as well) It has the right amount of performance in it for a cruiser and has been very reliable, it finished the Cannonball 2014 effortlessly and surprised a few other riders :)

It really depends on what you want to do on the bike, if you take a pillion often, how bothered you are by horsepower (or lack of in some of the smaller models) how much luggage space if you intend to tour etc

If its just for trips to the seaside and round town then any of them will do, buy what you like the look of ;)

I have a bit of a soft spot for Road King Classics for a tourer, its what I always imagine a Harley to look like and very good at its job. Likely I will have one on the fleet when Im a bit older and have more time to spend touring

A Night Rod or V-Rod Muscle are preconception busters (with the liquid cooled 1250cc metric engine that Porsche had a hand in) but many who are after the traditional Harley look and sound dismiss them as oddities. They are like the road going version of the Destroyer, the factory drag bike that has dominated its class since 2002 with Andrew Hines on board.

Road king custom with the beach bars , an early v- rod , or the Rocker c . The one problem with ape type bars Is that your fingers go numb fairly quickly .

Sadly after a few GSXR's and the like the pleasure of screaming away from the lights is very dull now and just want to sit back in jeans and look hard

You need a Nightrod then ...and you can burn off those pesky GSXRs at the lights ...at least until they get into 2nd gear/80mph ;)

If you can get the HD thinking out of your head these are worth a test drive. Having owned all sorts of bikes the Diavel is the perfect bridge between sports bike and cruiser. Comfortable, content to cruise when you choose, sound awesome, very responsive, handling is amazing and an awesome 240 rear tyre.

It's the country roads that make me smile, although I do have a lot of fun on the commute! I know what you mean though, and have had my head turned by those modified triumph scramblers. What do you think of those, still s bit skirty for you?

No big fat arsed tractors for me.

It has to be a 883 Iron, 1200 heads, Vance Hines pipes and another few quids worth of tweaks.

The only HD that came close was the V-Rod but my VFR800 was a much nicer proposition.

If it has to be an HD, the only one I'd choose is the 48. With quiet pipes.

Eta - although the the break out looks rather nifty.

I’ve had a couple of Sportsters, they’re a reasonable-handling Harley (with a bit of tweaking) but as soon as you go further up the models you’re forgoing handling for looks. IMO.

I've had a few, won't have another one.
Forget the 48, looks ok but tank volume is shit...

Best one I had was the Fatbob, £10k will get you a good 2nd hand one with lots of extras... Just make sure it's been tweaked with exhaust, airbox etc...

I believe the average age of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club member ( I am also a member) is 66 years.

I was in the market for a Harley until I saw this. Now, this is what I will get when I move.

  48. #48
I've had a sportster and enjoyed it immensely, but ultimately it was physically too small and not particularly practical. One up, right road, right mood it was fine. Otherwise no.

If I were to have another Harley, I'd seek out a Superglide T Sport or a Road King.
