I would have guessed a waffle maker for a stove
Or perhaps a cooking press for bacon etc
But it looks real cool whatever it is great find

Anyone any idea what this is? An opening thing rather like a waffle maker in principle (though not really room for batter) which fits onto an insert for a range or similar. Maybe for embossing something?
Marked Gydé so maybe French etc? 33cm Tiles!

Steak press?
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
old french cast waffle iron , the base is for it to sit on a stove gas burner.
Gydé is definitely French*; a short internet search puts the family in Northern France so would be consistent with waffles. But as you said very little space for the mix so how about a stroopwafel press?
* the border between France, Flanders, Belgium fluctuated enough to justify calling the name Gydé «*French*» needs to be understood as a fairly wide claim.

Thanks everyone, looks like it is a waffle maker, similar one on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/335049031213?_ul=GB
Much thinner than usual though, max ~3mm thick so yes, more like stroopwafel or ice-cream cone.
Might see what I can make - will fit over gas hob…
Was my Father’s. Bought lot of stuff like this - old irons, kitchen equipment etc at auctions.
Sorry Zelig, missed your post!
