Is it really that good ?

American Gangster stuff has no interest to me, and I've never managed to sit through a godfather film............but as there is such a dirth of good tv lately I might have to give the old stuff a go.

Don't get me wrong I do like a good crime series (ie breaking bad), but New York Italian style gangsters shows really leave me cold.

Brilliant show. Takes a while to adjust to the humour but once you get it. So funny

    Cecil Hotel

Vanishing At The Cecil Hotel on Netflix

The true and intriguing story of the disapperance of Elisa Lam who was staying at the Hotel at the time, obviously no spoilers but....
But a story full of twists and turns and even more strange as its true

    Cheers

Agreed. Watched the first episode about 12 months ago and didn’t connect with it but now watching 2-3 episodes a day.

I’m caught between finding all the Rose’s annoying and yet lovable all at the same time.

Watching The Great on Channel 4.

Great fun if not in any way historically accurate!

It’s great. They’re all great characters, it’s just very ‘American’ by the end I was gutted it finished. Great show.

Yes. Please give it a go. Breaking Bad is very good and certainly up there with it but Sopranos is better. As it ran for 9 years I you really connect with the characters. hard to explain except that I was hooked and gutted when it ended.

My other half persuaded (forced) me to start watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It's been very enjoyable so far :P

Similar position here, annoyingly I also can’t have it on in the background whilst working for the same reason!

    Another vote for ZeroZeroZero.

A couple of strange plot twists, but a really enjoyable gritty series.

I also watched All The Way last night. It was promoted as a series but I think it can only be a one off. Bryan Cranston nails it as LBJ during the civil rights movement era . Excellent .

It’s not exactly new but I recently watched all of the Line of Duty series for the first time and they were excellent. Series six is going to be on soon I believe.

Nearly caught up on The Serpent and, despite a slow start it's proved pretty compelling viewing.

Watched The Great so far, but after a refreshing start it's got stale rather quickly...

Started watching the Netflix documentary series Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel.

Usually not my cup of tea but 2 episodes in and it's quite compelling.

Starting watching Manhunt - Search for the Unabomber on Netflix and quite enjoying it. Might be late to this party though as it’s from 2017 I think.

There’s a second series about the 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombing which is every bit as good as the Unabomber

I'm now thinking of box sets in the same quality league as The Sopranos that could put it outside a top 10

I don't agree these do but could be regarded as possible
and others can chime in with classics

    So ; The Wire
    Boardwalk Empire
    MadMen
    West Wing
    Narcos
    Breaking Bad
    The Crown
    The Shield

    WHYG

    So what others are possibles?

I was def too harsh initially.

House of cards (first three seasons are amazing)
    Homeland (first three seasons)
    Sons of anarchy
    Game of thrones

Would all make my top 10.

    Okay
    I’ve watched all those
    HOC-loved it first 3series
Homeland-hit &miss but I do like it but not in same league
GOT-loved it but not in same league
SOA-I binged that through lockdown1 and it was a guilty pleasure but that shouldn’t be quoted in this company.

For me no it's not as good as the hype, it's an ok watch but that's it.

I didn't bond with any of the characters and as such I didn't actually care what happen to them through the story.

Finished watching The Handmaid's Tale S1-3, on Prime. Wife and I have really enjoyed it and though it's very different to the book at times, allows the plot to continue.

We're both looking forward to S4 now.

Lately, I've been watching Tribes of Europa on Netflix.

Haven't finished the series yet, but so far it's not bad once you get past the dubbing. The opening 5 minutes reek of teen drama and I nearly stopped watching, but the tone changes pretty quickly.

It's basically a political thriller set several years post-Brexit.

That sounds interesting- is that a Netflix show or somewhere else?

Watched Murders at White House Farm last night - watched it all in one go. Really good, especially as I didn’t know the story.
