    Lexx

I just found Lexx the crazy 1999 sci-fi series on Prime. I watched it in the early 2000's and loved it. The effects are a bit dated as expected but the characters are great: Stanley Tweedle the cowardly Security Guard Grade 4, Giggerota the cannibal, Kai the dead guy - last of the Brunnen G (memorably said "the dead do not poo"), ZEV - part slut/part cluster lizard and her paramour 790 the robot head.
    A sci-fi classic

Just discovered ‘Mayor Of Kingstown’ on Paramount.

    Really good.

I'd avoid the dubbing (unless you can ignore that kind of thing done badly) and if you have no objection to subtitles (or have acceptable understanding of Spanish) then the following crime/thriller/detective on Netflix are worth watching

    Films:
    THE BAZTAN TRILOGY
    "Invisible Guardian"
    "Legacy of the Bones"
    "Offering to the Storm"

    Series:
    Vivir Sin Permiso (Unauthorised Living)
    Mar di Plastico (Plastic Sea)
O sabor das margaridas (Bitter Daisies)
Entrevías (Wrong Side Of The Tracks)
¿Quién Mató a Sara? (Who Killed Sara?)

We randomly came across North Sea Connection on iplayer, which sounds unassuming and boring from the title but very gripping once you watch the first episode. It’s essentially a six part drama about Irish drug trafficking.

Hopefully Germaine Jenas is presenting and not Alex Scott.

I used to love the Water Margin, but Monkey just seemed like gibbering nonsense.

Currently watching Dopesick which so far is excellent, if heavy.

  12. #4612
Latest series of Picard, excellent so far and getting better.
The latest episode was superb, no spoilers, but it was like one of the old TNG episodes, except with modern production.

Hopefully the series will bring fitting closure for the cast from the golden era of Star Trek.

Bloodline on Netflix is good. Season 1 is the best but 2 and 3 worth watching too.

Watched that during lockdown - certainly worth a try. As you say S1 is the best.

Not new, but new to me. A decent Sci-fi series called "Dark Matter" showing on one if the Fred channels on the Firestick.

I mentioned a couple weeks ago I had returned to watching Orange is the New Black (2013-2019). I just finished the final season (#7) after binge-watching 3-4 episodes per night. It's an excellent series, with brilliant casting, innovative plots, plenty of drama, and the acting is top notch. I just wish the pandemic hadn't gotten in the way. Highly recommended!

Was about to say the same thing, after two episodes back to back. Lovely to look at with soft, nostalgic photography, beautiful colour grading and a great sense of time and place. But crucially it sounds great too, they’ve made sure that this fictional legendary band sounds like a band who can really play. Lots of other lovingly curated music of the era too. Billy Dunne makes a surprisingly old teenager ;-) But no complaints, they’re all good. Looking forward to the rest, fingers crossed it keeps it up.

    Anyone watching Jerk?

It is great for people who like over-tbhinking stuff. The premise is a bunch of people with various disabilities/syndromes/afflictions who for various reasons find themselves exploiting/using to the full society's desire to be as inclusive as possible with reference to the less able-bodied.

To put it another way, we are expected to laugh at the situations they find themselves in. That in real life would be appalling, but here we have a bunch of physically-challenged actors and writers who presumably very much hope that we will laugh at them.

    I certainly do.

The main guy (and co-writer) Tim Rencow has cerebral palsy (and his movements presumably gave rise to the title) and is not that easy to understand, most likely because he is Mexican in reality. He plays a perfect lead in what is to a large extent a tick-the-cliché exercise.

Tempted? Track down episode 3.1. Watch it, spot the promising actor who could well be snapped up for starring roles with the right exposure, and then report back.

I am new to it Matthew; the first few minutes I was embarrassed at my propensity to laugh at the misfortunes of others.

Then it dawned on me that I was reacting just how they intended me to, so I forgave myself.

By the way, if watching it be prepared for some ripe language!

Just finished this series and agree with you both, very cinematic a nod to Fleetwood Mac I believe.

Just watched the first episode of Blue Lights on BBC1. Very gritty, I would assume realistic, and very well acted. Looking forward to the next five episodes.

Why is it I heard the opposite about 1923, that it’s the worse?

I started watching Blue Lights last night and it’s very good so far with what appears to be an interesting plot unfolding. It’s also nice to see a police/crime drama from a different angle - freshly recruited constables as opposed to troubled detectives.

Binged the whole series of 'Blue Lights' on BBC over the weekend, based on the positive comments above.

Really enjoyed it. Decent story, reasonably believable for a TV series and some great characters.
