Thread: Any good New TV Series worth watching

  1. #2651
It's not a series but I watched the late 1980s documentary "Fourteen Days in May" on BBC Iplayer based on Louis Theroux's recommendations of must watch documentaries that had influenced him.

It may not be for everyone but I found it to be a very powerful and moving film showing the building tension in the days and hours before an apparently innocent man's scheduled execution.

Thanks for the tip! Always Sunny is so brilliant it’s difficult to put into words adequately.
So clever my foot fell off.

I saw the trailer for that on Netflix last night - looked promising, although I don't know too much about it.

Have also watched a couple of episodes of The Stranger - that is pretty good so far.

Very, very good - complex plot (which I have not quite worked out yet!).

    After Life

Not a new one, but I have just watched 'After Life' with Ricky Gervais.

I am not generally a big fan of RG's stuff, but this one I thoroughly enjoyed. Well worth a watch, it was very well done.

The Mrs and I have just stormed through season 1 of Evil, whilst not perfect by any means it's offered a couple of genuine shocks and posed the occasional philosophical question...like a lot of these shows imho the first 3 or 4 episodes tend to be better, tighter then you get a bit of 'filler' in the middle and a return to form towards the end, if you're lucky.
Apparently Evil was confirmed for a second series after the first 4 episodes were aired, pretty good, novel for a new show I think. The leads are well acted, the chief male protagonist was in Marvels 'Luke Cage', where he brought a quiet dignity to the role, not usually associated with the Super Hero genre and he does well as a somewhat conflicted priest in training tasked with proving/debunking possessions and miracles in this.

    The Stranger, contains potential spoilers

tbh, if I hadn't seen the titles, I couldn't believe Harlan Coben had anything to do with it. The story line is appalling and has holes you could drive a lorry through. Perhaps I was falling a sleep at key points but some of the aspects of the story are, frankly, beyond belief. For example how did the bent copper get the lanyard off the missing teacher. How on earth did he also think why the 'missing teacher' would get hold of a gun with a silencer and shoot someone in a cake shop? What the heck? Also, after he found out what was wrong with his daughter, why did he still continue a killing spree when the reason given for this in the first place was to safeguard his employer who was paying him so he could do expensive private specialist for his daughters illness? I could go on and on but you get the idea....

Agreed, never knew anything about this, bonkers story for a guy that had everything. Worth a watch indeed.

I had a week off and did the same. I then had a two day business trip this week and have watched almost all of Kiss Me First and October Faction on the plane there and back. Both really good.

Yes, not bad at all. I wasn't sure I'd bother having read the book, but it's pretty good.

About 4 episodes into S2 of "Castle Rock" (on Starplayz via Amazon Prime).

The first season was ok with a typical Stephen King creepy vibe but this second season seems to have taken a slightly weirder turn (and for the worse imho).

Will keep with it for a few more episodes...

If anyone’s interested in Starplayz on Prime, it’s currently £0.99 per month for 3 months.

Altered Carbon Season 2 on Netflix next week.

Fan of the books , lukewarm on season 1 , be interesting to see it nonetheless ; seems to be a possible amalgam of the second and third books .

Keep an eye on hotukdeals, I’ve had Sky Entertainment since October which currently runs until May, and thanks to there its cost me the grand total of £2.

Just started watching Hunters on Amazon. Not sure if we’ll stick with it, but will certainly give it a couple of episodes to decide.

I take it back. The middle episodes (mainly focusing on Annie - no spoilers) brought it back on track and the link to S1 was nicely done too.

The Virtues. Yes I know this was broadcast 8 months ago but we only just got around to watching it. What an incredible mini-series, superbly produced and acted and with a harrowing story that I am still mulling over days later. Certainly the most powerful TV I have seen in a very long time. Even the soundtrack is worthwhile with PJ Harvey contributing 5 original songs that saw me buying the record too.

    It is a must watch.

Shane Meadows has long been a hero of mine. This interview is incredible on his inspiration for The Virtues, although far from easy to read:
