Any good New TV Series worth watching

    Hi,

Traveling quite a lot with work at the moment and wondered if any of you had any good recommendations for TV shows (Either UK or US).

I've recently really enjoyed Forgotten, Luther and Dr Foster (and not even for just Suranne Jones!!) and I'm looking for more. Couldn't really get into Game of Thrones or Vikings, but probably just me on that

    Anyone got any suggestions please

    John

It isn't to everyone's taste, but I really enjoyed the recent Fargo series. And the series prior to that as well.

One of the best things I have seen on the box for ages.

Any good New TV Series worth watching

Deutschland 83, Spin, both on More4 and available on catch up.

The first is a spy thriller set in '80s East / West Germany, the second is a French political drama set in modern day.

Both are gripping, and capture the mood of the time in which they are set.

    They are subtitled though.

Edit: completely missed the UK / US bit.

I'm watching archer on Netflix at the minute. Makes me laugh a LOT.
Press on past the pilot episode because it gets really good after that.

Also watching making a murderer and blindspot

Just finished Aquarius season 1 on sky catch up - sky Atlantic I think. Loosely based on Charles Manson, very good. Season 2 has been commissioned but no release date yet.

Recommend 1st series of True Detective, again on sky. 2nd series not so good but fortunately it's a completely different story with a different cast, series 1 was top draw

Better call Saul? Not very new but a lot of people I've spoken to have overlooked it.

If you've never seen Breaking Bad, it's worth watching. It's very easy to binge watch, although for me it felt a bit tired towards the end (I'm sure plenty will disagree).
Watch Mad Men - all of it.

I like what I've seen of Deutschland 83 and Spin so far, they're not UK or US, but as has been pointed out they're both subtitled.

In the 'actors who can really act' thread, Liev Schrieber and Eddie Marsan get mentioned - both are in Ray Donovan, as is Jon Voigt. If you liked The Sopranos, you'll probably like Ray Donovan.

Line of Duty on BBC is good.

Breaking Bad, The Wire are personal favourites.

Sons of Anarchy gets good write ups and my assistant at work wears a SoA hoody into work... He's a repressed motorcyclist, though!

Hap and Leonard is excellent - new 6 parter on Amazon in the UK. Funny - 'Omar' from The Wire is excellent - and a big finish too.

    Better Call Saul.

It's a spin off from Breaking Bad and almost as good.

A couple I've enjoyed recently here in Canada - Lucifer, about the devil leaving hell and sets up a hot nightclub in Los Angeles, and somehow gets mixed up in a police investigation, and then starts to like helping solve crimes. It is very funny in parts, and the lead actor is a Brit, in the middle of all these Americans, two countries separated by a common language.

And the second one is X-Company - about a joint UK/Canadian/US training facility and the spies they produced to go behind enemy lines in WW2 France - series one is on Netflix and the 2nd series has just finished here.

And, I've just thought of another one - Schitts Creek. A Canadian production with Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara and Dan Levy - was awarded Best Comedy at the Canadian TV Awards a few weeks ago, and it is very funny indeed.

Thanks for that, read the books and enjoyed them all. Wasn't aware that they had done a tv series, cast looks great and if it's as funny as the books then it's going to be good. Cheers

Agreed, up to date with Banshee right now, just done watching episode 3 of season 4, now awaiting the return of Ray Donovan. Enjoying Line of Duty too.

    Currently watching the following..

    The Americans
    Blindspot
The Blacklist, last episode was a shocker
    Slasher
    Mad Dogs

    My wife loved The Americans.

The problem I have is she binge watched as she's on maternity leave, so by the time I'm ready to continue, she's a series ahead!

Vikings is supposed to be good. Hell on wheels too I've heard good things about.

I always want to watch Fortitude but never have time

I did manage Narcos, though. Enjoyed that very much although I wanted it to build at a slower pace than it did tbh.

The People vs OJ Simpson is very good, just one series of 10 parts. I remember watching parts of the original trial as it was on TV when I was at university. 20 years ago!

I've been enjoying Follow the Money on BBC 4 http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b072h7rk Now on iPlayer. Lots of plotlines, intrigue etc. A Danish programme with subtitles (don't let those put you off).

JUST noticed episodes 1 and 2 expire today (in 7 hours' time, so you may want to grab those tonight. Episodes were broadcast in pairs. There's a week left to catch up with parts 3 and 4. This series is not downloadable as far as I know)

I'll look up Spin, thanks, as I enjoyed Deutschland '83 (esp as I visited the old Berlin secret police offices a couple of years ago so it was great to see them used in the series - more luxurious, for their time, than you might imagine (provided you weren't in a cell!)

'All the Way' on HBO has all the elements to become a good 'un, I think. Bryan Cranston is Lyndon B. Johnson.
