The balance of an Elgin I have:

    "DuraBalance
1958 announced unique sytem to adjust the inertia moment of a free-sprung balance. Instead of troublesome separately adjustable weights on the balance, two regulation weights are simultaneously shifted along the spiral-shaped spokes with a regulator lever. An additional enhancement is the perfect shock protection due to the elastic balance spokes."

    On a Scubapro theme,

A few others that are if not rare at least not always easy to find,

    Autavia Diver 100,

Longines "CAF", early (1937) example with enamel/porcelain dial,

1st gen Ploprof (tricky to find these with decent dials),

And the red Omega Isofrane is probably rarer than the watch.

Stretching the vintage concept I know but these "gold" M725's are pretty few and far between,

This thread made me realize how many nice vintage watches I've parted with over the last couple of years.

    My ST 375.0032 Speedmaster Reduced
NB If you follow the link you'll see that Omega, in updating their website, have got the picture wrong.
The text still says White (.600) or black (.300) dial while the 3810.81.00 and 3510.80.00 1997 blue dial cart versions are pictured.

Just don't expect anything from this guy!

I'm new here :). Im from Holland and like the much vintage watches on this forum.

Here are 3 of my vintage watches. I've more but they are not very rare. I've a Chronostop 145.007, A Seamaster Soccer Timer 145.020, a Speedmaster 145.022, A Speedmaster Mark II 145.014 and a modern Seamaster 2254.50.

I like to see it PickleB that you also have a white dial Speedmaster Reduced. Fratellowatches wrote a article about my watch. See the link below. I've seen your watch and maybe 1 of 2 others. They seem to be very rare. Most of the time my girlfriend wears the watch.

    http://www.fratellowatches.com/omega...ced-white-dial

Also have a Bulova Marinestar with the Valjoux 72 5 movement. It's the same case as the Zenith Cairelli CP1 and the Excelsior Park Monte Carlo. Cannot find much information about it so if somebody can tell more i really like to know.

And not so rare, but in really nice condition, a Heuer 1163 Viceroy Caliber 12

Yes they are rare. Personally I have only seen one for sale during the last 5 years or so, and that's the one in the picture. Further I only know of 2 other examples within my military-watch-circles.

you can read a little more about this watch on my soon-to-be blog: https://flybacksandmore.wordpress.com/

I've posted this one before, but here it is again - the thread topic is appropriate. In 1967 Doxa produced a few misprinted dials. Sharkhunters by nature are black dials. Doxa's silver dialed model is called the Searambler. So, a silver Sharkhunter is a rare bird. I have seen one other on the internet, being listed for sale at an eye popping price (I thought), so I'm hanging on to mine.

This Girard Perregaux Damier is one of the few I have seen with center seconds and date. I suspect it is a franken, based on this old ad, possibly (probably) a 7838 movement and dial shoehorned into a 7427 case. I say "shoehorned" because the word Swiss is now hidden under the inside edge of the case. Still, I'm happy to have it, and it's a fun bit of Rat Pack era kit to wear with a suit.

This watch never really was mine (it was on loan from a friend), but it was in my watch box for about six months, which is longer than the survival rate of some watches that I legitimately did own. Don't see too many of these about.

Also picked this one up this year

Had to have it serviced & replated but a super rare watch and very unusual non-chrono Chronomat from 1952.

Ultra Chron 430. It doesn't come up for sale often, the 431 with a date does, but not the 430.

Belair true 24. The black dial is less common than the white. It has a Lorsa P75 for the movement.

Marvin bidynator, not sure how rare it is considered, but I can't seem to find the silver one anywhere, or another of the gold for spares. I love the dial work on this one.

    My top shelf watch.

Not sure how rare these are, but I had a tough time finding them in the condition they are in and I believe the 2 with the micro rotor movements are going to sky in price and be tough to come by. Grab micro rotors while you can.

Crossposting this from the quartz thread.

Nautilus Superpro 1000m. Titanium case. It seems other brands used the same case but not always in titanium. Never seen another one for sale, but I may be looking in the wrong places.

100 year old is quite rare for a wristwatch, but I think the original period hardback catalogue could be rarer than the watch

    Yep, they did 3 versions.

    2 sub-dial Valjoux 7731 (I had one of these)
    3 Sub-dial and date, Valjoux 7740
3 Sub-dial flyback, this one, Valjoux 725 and the coloured bezel.

All manual wind with screwdown crowns.

I still have a white dialled Excelsior Park Monte Carlo that uses the same case. I guess it just qualifies as rare, but this group is certainly rare.

Fantastic Thread, there are some simply stunning watches.

It has made me take a picture of one of my watches, that are not too common with this dial variation. it is a white dial.

Please excuse the picture but it is dark here except for the festive lights.

    :)

Lots of Heuers in this thread, but not one of these, so far

  39. #139
While I was reading this thread earlier today (and loving it) I looked down at my wrist and saw my Tudor 7021 from 1968. While I don't necessarily see it as an extremely rare watch, I remembered that they only made this one for a couple of years, if I'm correct. And given we are talking about the late 60s, I guess there probably aren't that many left around today. So here's to the 7021 snowflake...

    Here are my two :)

To be honest neither is particularly rare, but I think both would legitimately count as vintage.

The pocket watch is a Waltham, and beyond that I don't know a great deal. I think it's around 100 years old, but can't be sure. It was a gift to me, I think when I was born, by my grandfather who died about 15 years ago. I never had much interest in watches and my parents hung onto it and kept it safe and eventually about 4 or so years ago, an interest in watches developed, and my parents felt it was time for me to take ownership. I acquired the pocket watch which had never run, at least as long as I can remember. After a good experience getting my Speedmaster Professional serviced, I contacted Duncan at Genesis and asked if he would be willing to service it and get it running. It took a lot of consideration to decide whether to post this irreplaceable (to me) piece up to him, but I did and I'm glad I did as he took excellent care of it, and with a new crystal and just a clean and lubrication, it came back running beautifully and keeping surprisingly accurate time.

The second was a bit of a random punt on here. It's a 1952 Seamaster Automatic, running (I think) a cal. 354 'bumper' automatic movement. It was acquired on here looking rather shabby and as a non runner, so I acquired it, and was then contacted by walkerwek1958 who expressed an interest in refurbishing it and servicing it. I have to say now I'm not really one for 'patina' and I took to the decision to get this piece fully restored - redialed, case nicely polished, and basically returned looking like new. Needless to say, Paul did a terrific job and this piece runs fantastically and looks wonderful. It's interesting as it's engraved on the back as belonging to an 'M.S. OWEN-SMITH R.A' - looking up that name turns up an interesting history of a military doctor who wrote quite a few papers and so forth. I've considered trying to find his family to see if they were interested in acquiring it back as I've no idea how it ended up no longer in his possession, or whether they'd want it back.

So these are my two vintage pieces. Neither especially valuable but the Waltham is irreplaceable to me given who it was from. The Seamaster I doubt I'll part with unless I ever get in touch with the family of Mr Owen-Smith, they want it back.

    Cheers.
