Thread: Your favourite Bond film

  1. #1

    Your favourite Bond film

With Spectre on the imminent horizon, what's your favourite Bond film.

    Just one please...

My choice is Live and Let Die. I always liked Moore's suave if cheesy Bond. And I think Jane Seymour is one of the most beautiful women that has ever lived. And then all the Voodoo-hoodoo nonsense, what's not to like?!

Only one? Then I would have to go for Dr. No. It's perfect

As kid I loved Roger Moore, now not so much, I wish Lazenby has done few more tbh

Skyfall - a nod to the past, tip of the hat to the present and (perhaps the deciding factor) I went to the IMAX with both my boys and we had a great night!!!!

    Goldfinger without a doubt.

Although any of the first four Connery's could qualify.
    Cheers,

OHMSS. Lazenby's acting is a bit weak but for me there's something about that film that just works. Peter Hunt's editing is superb especially in the fight scenes (where Lazenby is actually very good).

1st Goldfinger ... The song, the car, the watches, the clothes, etc. and the original and best Bond
2nd From Russia with Love ... for Tatiana Romanov
3rd The Living Daylights ... for the car

The living daylights just nudges out Golden eye. Both have great babe's, gadgets and girls.

Every actors first film is arguably their best especially Craigs. Jesus.

Agree with OP. Live and let die has it all including a great soundtrack.

I always thought the film stuck very closely to the book.

Goldfinger. I've seen it so many times. It's the definitive Bond film.

OHMSS for me. It's also my favourite Bond book.

I never had a problem with Lazenby.

I think with my age, it has to be Goldeneye...

But The Living Daylights and The Spy Who Loved Me run it close

Goldfinger by a mile.... best soundtrack..

  22. #22
Didn't we already do this recently?

Anyway (again): Goldfinger. Best Bond, best car, best story.

  23. #23
Skyfall; packed with all the right Bond ingredients and love the special effects

  24. #24
From Russia With Love for me

    All in my opinion but...

Best Bond Villain (Robert Shaw had amazing screen presence and was more than a match for Connery in this respect - a truly great actor)
(One of the) Best looking Bond girl
Love the Swaine Adeney Brigg briefcase with far more believable spy gadgetry than most Bond films
Best Bond fight scene - Connery & Shaw onboard the Orient Express
    6538 Sub

The book is really good too, although it would have been an 18 cert. with a gallon of blood f they had recreated the end of the fight scene

    Casino Royale.

The black white opening sequence of Casino Royale did it for me, a perfect way to launch a new era for the Bond franchise.

Live and Let Die for the classic era.......... Have to admit though that i can't find much fault with anything that Daniel Craig has done, favourite of the modern era....... Skyfall.

Top 5 not in any particular order.

From Russia with Love (Everything you could want in a Bond film)
For Your Eyes Only (Proper spy film amidst too much travelogue 'comedy' in the Moore series)
Thunderball (loved the book as a kid)
Casino Royale (A massive return to form)
Dr No (Where was the giant octopus fight eh? EH???)

I certainly wasn't one of those who thought Skyfall was the best ever - I didn't like it at all in fact.

Exactly! Plus the following construction site sequence just made the film for me.

Skyfall was also another great movie.

Surprised with so many shout outs to On Her Majesty's Secret Service, I just watched it the other day, and it is indeed one that stood out among the rest, just surprised because I felt I was in minority with that one

I forgot about the score, yes that's cool too.

There were some stills on (I think) Youtube of some deleted scenes from OHMSS, one involving Bond chasing someone over roof tops from the Royal College of Arms sequence in the film. I think they were cut more to reduce the running time than anything else. They looked good & would probably have made the film even better.

Yeah forgot OHMSS - I really like that one. Only one bad thing really - the utter b******s world domination plot. One of the few to create a real feeling that Bond is frantic - specifically the chase before Diana Rigg skates up. The only other time I really felt was similar was when Bond is on his knees in the train carriage with Donovan 'Red' Grant.

Really like You only Live Twice. The archetype of the baddies lair: a hollowed out volcano. Ninjas, spaceships, Blofeld, Little Nellie. Just Awesome.

From Russia with Love for me

Then Skyfall, and then Dr No.

Connery is still The Bond for me. I grew up through the Moore era, and loved Moonraker etc when I was young, yet I cringe now when they are on TV

Favourite Bond Girl (yet an awful film) is Olga Kurylenko from Quantum of Solace

    My top 5:

    Goldfinger
    Thunderball

    (Skipping entirely Roger Moore's era)

    The Living Daylights
    Goldeneye
    Casino Royale

The Living Daylights is my favourite. What a relief to have a Flemingesque Bond after the lounge lizard years. No submarine cars or space stations, no megalomaniacs with huge underground bases. A nice, tense thriller with a credible espionage theme. I also like From Russia With Love, Casino Royale and the first two Brosnan films. Skyfall showed great promise but the plot is incoherent and it seems to run out of steam (and money) well before the end.

Wish Connery had been in OHMSS.

Favourite is probably Goldfinger, Thunderball has some excellent scenes and could of been awesome but Goldfinger edges it out for me.

Goldfinger for me; the first Bond film I remember watching (on TV) when I was 6 or 7 - I've been completely hooked ever since.

If you're a bit of a Bondologist, it's well worth listening to the Talk Show Bond series: John Gruber and Dan Benjamin watch and discuss every Bond movie ever, in chronological order. It's not quite a DVD commentary for the movies, but it's close.

Whilst I like the new stuff with Mr Craig, if we are talking classic Bond then it has to be Live and Let Die.

Pretty much how I feel, but for me Thunderball wins (I'm a sucker for underwater action) and I'd put Dr No just ahead of Goldfinger too personally.

OHMSS was a great film reduced to a good one by Lazenby.

I don't buy all this revisionary stuff, he's awful...

PS I visited the restaurant that's Savalas' lair a couple of years ago, well worth a visit if you're in the area and awesome to ski down from it too!
