Yep, Baz promised me first refusal but I am determined to slim the collection down, I must admit it wouldn’t have been my first choice to let go but he had a WTB, right place right time as they say.

Yes Bob has first refusal, although I plan to keep it for one of my kids - but plans can change!

My ultimate aim is to own one of these watches. I am on a waiting list for a new one and expect to get it sometime in 2031.

Speculative walk past my local AD and a cheeky ask inside... Turns out they had this in the safe from a cancelled order. Snatched their hand off!
I'm not really a fan to be honest, but thought it would be rude not to, and help build my collection

Why would you build a collection with a watch you are not a fan of?

To use as a trading option. My theory is that it'll always be in demand, so I can use as bargaining power. I do understand what you're saying though

It’s a very nice watch and quite understated compared to some other Rolex models but I would have thought cold hard $ would be better for bargaining with ?

Yep all good mate, decided to thin the collection a bit and concentrate more on the car. Can I interest you in anything, nice 6263 going cheap!

    16700 for me!

I started with a 16610, then acquired a polar 216570, but sold them both to acquire this and a Zenith elpy.

Love these GMTs, a very versatile watch

Did you ever have the older variation Deepsea? Always wondered if the tiny differences on new model is really noticeable

    Thanks for the kind comment

I did own the older variation many years ago. The new model wears marginally better balance wise but with either watch, they are quite wrist sensitive.

The major difference is the aesthetic of the bracelet. The difference is huge and makes the new watch look how it should have been from day one.

My first was the 16570 ExpII, and yesterday I added the Explorer. Not sure I can justify keeping both though... Once the honeymoon has worn off I will have to make a decision.

Ah so it doesn’t look like a hugely tapered bracelet?

Thanks for the complement. I am lucky enough to be able to afford both but it's more a nagging feeling that they should be worn as intended. I already have 4 other great watches and feel like they risk becoming objects in a drawer rather than regular companions in my wrist. Both these Explorers basically achieve the same thing as robust steel sports watches so I'd prefer to wear one regularly rather than need to choose. Back in the early 2000s I had a Seiko 5 as my only watch for years, I guess I'm hankering for the simplicity and connection I find I can only build with fewer pieces...

I feel the same way hence why ive reduced my collection and now am aiming for just two watches... like you I had a Seiko Titanium which I wore daily for 17 years and bonded with it.. thats what I seem to be missing with having watches for a week or so because im always after another..and ive been advised many times on here to just wear them.. lets see how I go now with a Explorer as my daily wearer and god forbid a Tag Aqua Chrono Cal 45 as my alternative.. i know they are hated by some but i like the designs..

    Thank you.

Well since that post I've added a brand new Sub LV which I really wanted back since I sold mine too cheap in 2016.

I wore the BLNR for 3 years solid then I bought the SD in November and wore it daily for 8 weeks whilst my BLNR was in for service.

The LV I havent worn yet but know it wont get a tonne of wear from when I last had it.

The SD, and Exp II & BLNR I see getting the most wear in that order. The YM is super special but won't be a daily wearer.
