Thread: New Tudor Black Bay?

  1. #1

    New Tudor Black Bay?

Anyone heard or have details on this?

Maybe use their new inhouse movement?

Supposedly released/announced next week. Maybe as a response public's reaction to the Only Watch one-off?

Better than precious red and the blue ones.
    Where did you see this?

No, the one-off was for the Only Watch auction and had different hands and dial:

Different bezel as well - the Only Watch model has no minute markings between 0 and 15. I'm assuming the production variant has to have them to comply with ISO diver's watch requirements.

Nice. Now if only they would sort those hands out. They have been the only thing stopping me from buying one so far.

If the lume on the bezel pip matches the dial this could be very popular… that error let the red version down to me at least!

Me too, I'd have a red one if it wasn't for that. However, as they use that pip on both BBs I can't see them creating a new one just for a third BB - unless they're going to change the one on the red too.

If they sort the pip, I can see me picking up this model. It does 'modern vintage Sub' very well.

That's very nice, but I prefer the clean lines of the original blue.

Never heard of that, but I like it very much. I hope they produce it, as I don't like the colored bezels on the existing models. This is the obvious choice.

Not enough text on the dial if the new Pelagos was anything to go by!

I still prefer the red though, which is good given I purchased one.

Have to say, I like them both!

I saw one in a shop window today on aged black strap - I would prefer golden hands - it looks a bit sterile and lacks the warmth of the red version

Call my cynical, but given the context and quality of the photograph; I'm thinking fake BB with a custom bezel. I hope I'm wrong though 'cos I like it.

I'd be amazed slightly surprised if they released something this close to the "Only Watch", but there would be lots of demand for it. The new bezel is amazing painted black instead of red or blue, and the bezel triangle is awesome also painted red. I'd be utterly devastated mildly annoyed if they went on to make one with a date, as I'd wished I'd waited...
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Let's hope so, they'll sell like hot cakes if they do.

I always wondered when the red and blue versions were released if they were holding off on the black to maximise long term sales. Like when a new car is released with only certain trims released.

Can't wait to see the new Black bay. I think they'll shift a few in black.

While the faux vintage look is not for everyone, I'd love to see a grey bezel variant.

Quite interested to see how this looks. I've read a lot about how this could impact Rolex Sub sales, but I'm not sure I buy that. I think most (90+%) people who buy a Rolex do so precisely because it says Rolex on it.

It would be interesting to know what proportion of new Rolex buyers are WISs compared to those that merely have the cash for a status boost.

I suspect the latter is much larger, so I bet Rolex think the new BB won't affect Submariner sales.

Of the blue and the red I prefer the red (not because of the red but because of the gilt dial). This is evening better looking that either red or blue.

I like the Black Bay, although it wears quite large on my wrist. The "Only Watch" one-off really excites me. It's exactly what I'd want. However the upcoming release doesn't have the red dial text, will have a standard bracelet at best (I like the retro look of the Only Watch straight lugs) and there's also people saying the lume pip on the bezel won't match the colour of the "aged" dial lume.

Looks like a few basic changes to run alongside the current models but I hope I'm wrong; if it looks like the Only Watch model I'll be buying one.

What makes people think this black one doesn't/wouldn't have a gilt dial? It looks gilt in that (really bad) photo to me...

That looks spot on! With the Tudor movement and no essay on the dial as well. I'm tempted!

    Now that's nice

Really good looking watch - retro looks

No idea, saw it on another forum.

I personally think it'll have an ETA and not the new movement, I think there's a typo in the magazine text. I reckon the BBs will use up all the ETAs they have left and then they'll switch them over, and change the dials at the same time.

So "Nouveau Calibre Manufacture" (picture in this thread) or "ETA 2824" (Hodinkee)?

I guess we will find out for sure tomorrow.

Very nice is that. Trouble is, I have a real problem with 22mm lugs....one of the reasons that I sold the BB Red.

Am I missing something or could you simply get hold of a new black bezel insert and swap it over with your existing red (or blue) one?

    Or even a full bezel?

    Are they different sizes?

They've still screwed up the lume pip. I can't believe they don't 'age' the pip to match the dial markers.
