    Ajw232; Odd PM

Just had a slightly odd PM from this member.
If its genuine, apologies but its asking about a watch I've got for sale, a link to another forum and it seems another member has been copied in?

Like I said, if its intended AJ, apologies. I can't see the link as I'm not a member on that forum.

    Cheers
    Dave

I've had the same. Seems dodgy to me. I tried replying but you can't. I didn't click the link.

I suspect it's a hacked account and a password phishing scam. If you copy the link from the message, it's not actually the rolex forum address. I'm changing my passwords right away! :-(

They spell forum with a double M as well.
Oh well, I wonder if he still wants my watch?

    Another one here.
My 'K9' filter blocked the website luckily.

First successful hacking? It was a matter of time after all the failures I suppose.

Bearing in mind the link takes you to the sign in page for the Rolex Forum, could it be possible that they may be after login details for that?
Any members on there want to post a heads up just in case?

The 'Beginner Rolex' thread also uses a dodgy link to try & get forum login details for the Rolex Forum.

Good scam though...it got me hook line and sinker. Thankfully, the rolexforum account is an old username/password that I don't use any more.

What I can't work out is what do they want with forum passwords? Why use a hacked forum account to harvest more forum account details?

  15. #15
Yep address flagged up and it a blantant attempt to get log in details.

Surely no need to address your log in details unless you tried logging in on the bogus link?!

I have seen a few hope to pick up the details for a member who is an active seller and then take payments on said items for sale.

Just there are a lot more in depth scams they can pull but that seems a common basic one.

Maybe they have a better class of chump on Rolex forums ?
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

knew something was fishy when I was called "a very respected member" in the PM :)

Got this from ajw232 tonight. I WANT IT.

    I want it
Hello, Is the watch you're selling still available? I am very interested but I was wondering if it was the same watch that is in this thread?

I know you're a very respected member here so I'll probably take it either way. How would you like payment?

    Thanks.

Funny thing is that, I first of all fell for it , and actually entered the wrong info (by mistake) and the page still opened .

Well at least I hope I did ...

I had the same thing - the URL was most odd and I was suspicious enough not to click the link, fortunately. I'm not a member of the Rolex forum so had no login details to give in any case...

@heurerkane edit your post to get rid of the link as people may click on it without reading the rest of the thread

I think Heuerkane has been hacked too. He seems to keep posting a load of nonsense like his post above and has also, apparently, posted a member's full address and bank details on Sales Corner under a Rolex thread.

This is looking like a car crash at the moment

Hoping for a quick solution to this.
Pardon my tech-ignorance but is is a simple job to block this IP from the forum, and if so is that even worth doing or can another computer just take over from where they were up to? i.e if they already have passwords can they just merrily carry on from another computer?

Seems extreme but I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised to see SC shut for the day.

If I had the time a sticky post on scammers would be useful...

I was hacked too - and the scammer tried to use my TZ account to 'sell' a Rolex.

Now sorted, security wise, and 'Sales Threads' duly annotated - see below.

Thanks to Eddie for helping me get this sorted. And to Rick (rjm25) who went out of his way to contact me.

    Gents

    I have also been duped.

But unfortunately, it has affected not only this account but also my Timezone & TRF which had the same login details!!

Thanks to Eddie and having to spend many hours on the computer, I am now hopefully, though not sure whether secure back on the forum.

Hopefully, the other two forums can help to soon.

How do you know that when you open a post that it is genuine????

    Thanks Eddie

I made a suggestion on your thread and also on watch talk ... could possibly work if we all agree .
