Thread: Food You Hate

  1. #101
I can manage chicken's feet after spending some time in China. I wouldn't seek then out but can eat then when they're part of the meal.

Tinned tuna is the work of the devil.

Hard boiled eggs. Especially when mashed up with mayo. Makes me heave.

Oreos. Has to be the most over rated biscuit. Dry and tasteless.

Mild cheddar. Why would anyone want to eat it? It's like eating a block of plastic.

Any meat from a tin. Whether it be corned beef or stew no way. It's just not right.

I have a fish and seafood allergy so obviously not them.
But I dislike sweetcorn, and beetroot but at a push will eat but peas I can't stand and will spend a long time removing them from food before eating.

Not a fan of beetroot or butter beans so haven't eaten them since I was a kid but there is no British type grub I would really turn my nose up at.

    Chicken feet, locusts etc though...
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Milk (allergy at birth, which spilled into a lifelong aversion).

And, like others have said, there are things I chose not to eat for a variety of reasons (octopus and pancreas spring to mind).

Seriously if you put a glass of milk in a room with me I will leave that room.... you can chase me down the street with it I won't want to be near it

    www.notmilk.com

No other mamal has milk after being weaned off the mothers breast milk - why drink cow puss, antibiotic laden, allergenic and hormonal juice?

Octopus is actually rather good and not fishy or slimy at all - I don't like the suckers so remove them

I don't like milk, either - I haven't drunk a glass of milk in the last 30 years or more. I did like it as a child, but the warm, slightly off school milk we were forced to drink put me off it for life.

I've often wondered, is warm school milk the basis for the Moloko Plus drinks in a clockwork orange, pretty sure it contained some kind of sedative.

It's more a question of intelligence than anything else. And an unfortunate Korean experience.

Sea Cucumbers. They taste so awful that you'll almost reach for the Maotai to wash it down.

I'd actually managed to erase the memory of eating them; thanks for reminding me. The texture of silica gel sachets with the taste of Bridgestone tyres. Not pleasant.

Suddenly also recalled another meal of some kind of fermented milk soup that the Wachagga seemed to like. I mean, I've eaten plenty of dodgy goat-based products (testicles, lights, etc) but kisusiyu** was awful.

**I *think* that's what they called it, although I can't find it in a Kiswahili dictionary, so it's probably a local Kichagga name.

Can't stand onions, the smell, texture and taste put me off since childhood, have accidentally had them a few times over the years and can tell instantly that they're in something. When on trips to France i also avoided the Steak Tartares, who the hell has raw beef with a raw egg?!

Apart from that everything else i don't like tends to be down to taste, there's so much i like out there i tend not to waste too much time eating stuff i don't like!

That reminds me of the time I was in Frankfurt, continental breakfast with the usual bits and pieces, and a bowl of little meatballs, why not I thought and popped one of the brown orbs in my mouth to then experience an intensely strong fish taste, I just about managed not to throw up from this unexpected assault on my tastebuds..
    Cheers..

    I had Ribena instead

I went back to a splash of milk in my coffee only then 20 years ago stopped cold turkey...

Lucky you. It's not easy, not liking milk. The majority of breakfast cereals, for example, are really not designed to be eaten with Ribena. Although apple juice is a pretty good substitute. I *really* wouldn't recommend Coca-Cola on Alpen...

My son is allergic to cow's milk although it took a long time to figure it out.

He drank a special formula before we moved him on to soya and goat's milk.

When his mum goes away I give him almond milk as a naughty treat.

I don't think it's the hardship it once was, although I feel sorry for him not being able to have ice-cream.

Most kids grow out of it, so we're hoping it won't last.

Tripe. Many years ago I visited Sheffield and was served some by a very nice family. Not wanting to appear disrespectful I ate some of it. The consistency is what has lingered all these years.

Devils food - I wholeheartedly agree!

Plus olives, most seafood, blue cheese, milk (except in a shake), water on its own.

I used to eat all my cereal dry so had to be something sweet - only just started eating muesli with yoghurt (which I can tolerate better)

OK, I'll let you off on the brains, I'm not a devotee of peanut butter and Marmite is I guess famously like or not but eels (London style with mash and liquor) are lovely.

Sprouts have changed over the last twenty years, I really encourage you to give them another go as they have bred out a lot of the bitterness. Don't boil them - peel off the outer leaves and toss them with a little olive oil, salt and pepper and roast them. Delicious!

Absolutely, or a light saute. Fantastic with pasta with some garlic and mushrooms.

I must admit the urea smell as my mum cooked some kidneys off with some sherry was enough to put me off them for life

I don't mind them cut up small in a pie though

hell it was the 70s and liver and kidneys were cheap...

    Weirdly ditto

People always tell me that how can you not like ALL seafood, a huge varieties of taste. And the best analogy I can come up with is Bagpipes....bear with me.

You can play lots of different tunes of bagpipes in lots of different styles, but they all still sound like bagpipes with that underlying drone/squeal. Seafood is the same, it all has that underlying fishy taste, which you can smell at any seafood market.
