Jules' father has released regular updates to the press, ,the latest of which was rather more downbeat and less optimistic, so I wondered whether there was bad news coming.

Absolutely tragic, and I can't imagine what his family and friends must have gone through. He was a very talented driver, with great potential, otherwise he wouldn't have been part of Ferrari's driver academy. His death, coming as a result of a freak accident, is a reminder that accidents happen in sport, and although the FIA have done so much to make motor racing safer, they can't take away all of the risks.

A tragic loss to the sport. RIP, Jules.

    Very sad news.

He seemed like a really exciting prospect for the future - Ferrari were regularly touted as a team he might end up driving for.

Very promising talent cut short.... Such a shame....when people say it's just sitting in a car anyone can do it, it's not a sport etc....no not everyone can..it takes a special skill to get to that level...and unlike so called idolised sports like soccer there are very few risks involved in it really....unlike Motorsport

Jules is an example of a real sportsman died doing what he loved ..respect to him and his family...

Terrible news, couldn't believe it when I saw it. There clearly wasn't much hope for a full recovery after the last few updates from the family, but didn't see this coming.

Such a sad and avoidable tragedy. Jules was in the prime of life and had a great future ahead of him. RIP

Very sad to hear the crash should never have been allowed to happen. A very promising driver who could have gone a long way. R.I.P Binachi #17

Very sad for him and his family.
