Thread: Adverts that you love.....

  1. #1

    Adverts that you love.....

I'm loving the new Lloyds advert, clearly with equestrian links I may be one sided, but a quick spat at horses in history and the bond and trust of our friends....

Always love a good advert - well shot etc - john Lewis ones are always great

    Thoughts and sharing thread....

I can't stand TV adverts in any shape or form, total distraction from the programme being shown.
I record any commercial stations and zip by them on playback..........

The ad is good but the context is cloying.

I feel the banks and financial institutions have all lost our trust and they are trying to persuade us that they are still nice people. T***s.

The Nationwide with the scarf and the Halifax with various are even worse - they are not even decent adverts.

How about this one from France? Gambling in France is, or was, a government monopoly and only offered the possibility to bet on horse racing. With the arrival of online betting the PMU had to expand and offer betting on other sports, so ran an ad' campaign to communicate this.

I found the aggressive nature of the old Ronseal and Cillet Bang adverts rather amusing - people shouting at you and intimating that you were a bit thick to use any other kind of product. Great - a sure fire way to ensure I wouldn't buy either.

I see that they have now changed them to become soft and fluffy.

As regards most adverts - they are so obtuse or 'youth orientated' that I have no idea what the product is. Still, Im a middle aged bloke that drives a 26 year old car, thinks M&S has gone too modern with its clothing and generally avoids shopping as much as possible so Im hardly their target audience.

Marketing works on you, whether you like it or not - that's the message from the marketers, anyway. Secretly, even though you can't stand their adverts and wouldn't knowingly buy their product in a month of Sundays as a result, you're secretly sleepwalking to the nearest 24-hour supermarket and buying it unconsciously.

    Check your cupboards :).
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

I'm in the 'none' camp, and we are fortunately largely advert free. We don't get any on television and have an adblocker on the web browsers. It's rather nice, the children don't get into the latest 'must-have' trends and can make their own minds up visiting proper shops.

Love the Lloyds advert and its tribute to horses. They missed out the bit about horses pulling the £20bn tax payers' bail out though.

Soundtrack is by a local girl from Lymington. Her name is Birdy (it's much easier than her real name). She has a lot of pedigree and the track is 'Wings'. She does some good stuff.

Oh, I see a long lasting thread coming up: 'favo commercial'

Personally, I like these two - among others- for the soundtrack as well:

    https://youtu.be/iItzJc-NHI4 Ferrari & Shell I
and this: https://youtu.be/nNHl7w2zDbM Ferrari & Shell II - Dutch commercial

and I like a lot of the Superbowl commercials from US cars manufaturers... like the 2013 Dodge Superbowl commercial:
    https://youtu.be/GdR5TOhHJGM
    Great motivational speech as well...

that was a great ad, I remember it from the 90s too. Don't think you can even get Harp in Ireland now. Maybe in the North?

This for me is one of those 'do you remember where you were when you saw it' moments, half time of 2007 rugby world cup final

Cool An oldie but a goodie ....

Apologies if this a re-post. Still a firm favourite and contender for the best TV commercial ever:

    http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7x...cial-ever_news

.... If only for the Ride of the Valkyries backing track.

    Probably NSFW too.

Always liked this one, and it reminds me of my youth back in the 80's:

    "Hey, follow the bear"

And a more modern one that made me laugh:

This thread reminded me of another great ad, this time for Pepsi. Not quite sure when it was around, but I'd say sometime in the early 1990s:
