    Which G-shock for kids?

    Hi All
Would really appreciate some help. I am about to go on holiday with 3 nephews (10, 8 and 7) and one niece (7).
As we are off on a bit of an adventure to Croatia as a family (15 of us) I'd like to give them a present of a watch - and more specifically a rugged g-shock which can take the inevitable abuse it will get.
Do you have any suggestions for watches that could be suitable? I am thinking about 50 per watch as the budget.
    Thanks in advance!!

I don't think you can go far wrong with the 'Baby g' range... there is a massive choice of styles and colours for the kids to enjoy.

My daughters still have theirs from previous holidays / birthdays etc and still as tough as old boots

I'm sure they will appreciate the gesture and you'll be their favourite uncle :)

They're quite big on small wrists but what about the g100? My 8 year old wears mine and loves it.

My experience of G-Shocks with kids is that it's not the size of the watch but the length of the strap that causes problems. If it looks good (and kids love G-Shocks) they'd happily wear half a house brick on their wrist.

I'd kind of like to get all 4 kids the same watch so there are no arguments over styles or colours so my only worry would be the size for my niece - who has small wrists.

Hi Mike would the 3 boys scoff if I got them a "baby" g though? Is it just for girls?

Just given my 10 year old nephew my dw-5600 and he loves it. Definitely not too large for him

My 14 year old has been wearing 5600's for about 5 years now - they are very slim and the strap can be worn very small without having to cut any excess off (and even if you have to replacements are easy to find). And I think the previous poster is right - boys won't be keen on a watch saying 'baby g' on the front. For girls though a baby g is perfect in a bright colour!

I wouldn't get fixated on a g shock. If you expand your search to Casio ( eg illuminator) and Timex ( eg explorers etc ) you'll find loads more choice. Agree that you need to get the boys all different models to avoid arguments. The girl might be happy with one of those gold tone digital bracelet model 70s looking casios.Good luck.Dave

Exactly my experience too. Even small boys love a standard g-shock and as has been said the strap goes pretty small on them.

Well, if size is a problem for the younger kids especially, you don't actually NEED a G-shock - though of course G-shocks have the cool factor, even for kids! Any decent digital watch will take any amount of abuse that even kids can throw at them, and aren't as humungous as most G-shocks (and cheaper!)

I have just brought my daughter a Baby G for our sailing holiday and have been looking for similar for me and the boy as we all need count down timers for the regattas.
As has been said I don't think Baby G's are for boys but there are a few Pulsar, Timex, Casio's etc on e bay, some with 100m rating for as little as £15.

Here's a pic of my 8 year old wearing mine/his g100. It'll at least give you an idea of what a Gshock will look like on smaller wrists. He's average build for his age and there's still another 2 holes to tighten the strap a bit more.

(As an aside, is there a favoured TZ online purveyor of G-Shocks?...)

Looks like he's about to thump someone

Bought my daughter a pink Baby G in Japan when she was 14. Ten years later, she still wears it.

They're all for kids aren't they?

Actually, I think they're perfect for kids - my sons 3 5600's are all scraped and worn from multiple skateboard crashes, being chucked in a bag when he does PE and generally used and abused. I guess that's what g shocks are for - although I did wince when I spotted nearly all the black paint has gone from the clasp of the 5610bc I bought him last year!
