A picture has appeared on the Yao website of his Explorer homage.
I could only find the one photo, but it seems to have caught the look of the original watch and case shape very well. Personally i wonder how well watches like the Explorer and Mk 11 translate to a larger version. I loved the Quad 10, but found it on the large side. In sizing the Explorer homage at 39mm it will give the watch a quite different feel to the original; but I acknowledge that is just what is demanded in these days of larger case sizes.

Not at all an ugly watch.

Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
.
I think it would look great with the hands of the PRS-14 ... thank god MR Yao does not provide them.
Who needs another Rollie clone, anyway?

I checked mkii out this morning and was outrageously surprised!
wow, they did it!
i thought.
so i started to paly around and configure my custom vantage.
but, to be honest, I just can't accept it at 39 mm.
it just doesn't work for me.
it'd be as big as my seamaster and it is not a dive watch, it should be cute and slim.
what the hell, i may just as well buy a rolex then.
39-40 mm, that's good for a diver or a chrono or a pilot's watch.
....
keep me in for that speedbird3!!!!
PS: will it come on an oyster bracelet?
on the other hand i could get a custom vantage with type 48 features.
but with that price tag... hummm.... not quite the quad replacement I had expected.
maybe, in the end, that sandoz with yao parts could be fun...
anyway, just my thoughts on this terrible issue.

Like Bubi, I am keen to see the Yaxplorer with my favorite Type 48 dial and hands. Might be quite a nice watch, though the SB3 will be in a different league.
Cheers,
Martin ("Crusader")
ok, here is my 48 sub
after all... it's rated 20 atm!
I am tempted, but... can't wait till after january.
same goes for the vantage
here's a couple more:
and my aggressive bubi custom one
yes, I like the ball second hand a lot!

hummm....
found this in the blog:
humm....
always biggish for me.
went over to look back at the zeno.
that is one hell of a watch.
though the dial is now "super precision"
and only 5atm (but with the screw down crown, who knows...).
the vantage with hamiltonesque dial is like a tank. big and sturdy.
boy...
buying watches is hard!
The 39mm case is a huge winner IMO. Bill Yao's work is second to none so you know the quality is top notch as well.
just fiddling around some more on mkii and.. humm..er... checking the bank account....
type48 dial and hands,
tipped sub second hand...
oh
my
goodness.....!
give me that 95 bucks discount man....
life is hard!
think MORTGAGE!!!!!
think birthday present
BLAST!!!
pictures coming next january.
Hello BUBI of the past, this is BUBI of the future speaking!!!
so, guess what, you'll spend tons of dosh and will eventually get both watches!!!
and the Vantage will be one of your favourites ever! 39mm is going to be a very nice size!
And Rolex will make a 40mm explorer with non luminous 3-6-9 indexes to your horror and disgust!
The vantage will have been one of the best buys of your life!
Bill Yao will go completely mad making loads of rolex lookalikes and delivering them with five years wating list!
.....
look at your future!!!
uuuuuhhhhhhhh
BUBI of the even more future to my BUBIs of the various past...
hey dudes, the black EVEREST is in the post!
Which means it has taken me about 13 years to get my ideal watch.
Well, one of a bunch.
And terminator 3 (or 6) is coming soon to cinemas,
I can feel timelines tangling, eh?
Beauty - homage done well
MKII is a brand I’ve followed and admired for a long time, albeit from afar as they’re too expensive for my budget. However, should finances allow, the Kingston, Hawkinge and first gen Paradive will definitely be on the list.
The Cruxible Hellion is a very handsome piece to my eye and I'll be in Florida late December so no import duty to pay...hmmm
Did MkII have a problem with taking people's money before making the watches and then taking a lot longer to deliver than promised? I may be mistaking MkII for another outfit, however.
SKX007 D.I.Y. Explorer instead!

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.
Everything changed after the vantage
Anyway, heyBubi of the past, look here!

As outlined previously, yes he does take a deposit and you have no idea when the watch will arrive... it can be years!
However his ‘ready to wear’ collection is fantastic and punches well above its price range in terms of quality and finishing. (Think Tudor standard)
I have the Hawkinge and Cruxible and and I am thinking about a buying Paradive.
