I asked six bees about their favourite bands. I said you hum it and I'll play it. I thought they'd like Queen or The Hives. But no . . . .

The Omega 1943 6B/159 just wanted a simple NOS English pigskin band. And to be worn with an Irvin sheepskin flying jacket at angels 15, two tenths cloud and an iced-up ASI. OK, whatever.

The Omega 1953 6B/542 (Fat Arrow) said "a David Boettcher in nice soft brown leather, please. No, wait, a Bonklip. No, no, the Boettcher."

The Smiths De Luxe G.S. 6B likes the 17mm width of the NOS VB strap.

Smiths Astral 1967 6B wanted to look like the one in Barrie Smith's book and go on a NOS 17mm Perlon but my friend (whose watch it is) put his foot down and said it's not right so now she's on a Phoenix bund and RAF strap from Mike Steward. (She still likes the Perlon though.)

The Hamilton said "a G10 or The Rolling Stones." Boring! And a blatant contravention of my new "no NATO" policy.

i think the strap on the smiths deluxe looks amazing . shows how putting some effort into getting the right strap can really 'lift' a watch.

Yes, sometimes, but I had a bit of a wake up call the other day when the quartz beater (Broadarrow PRS-3, same as the CWC diver) I was wearing got badly scratched against a brick wall. The sapphire was untouched but the bezel has got some wabi to say the least. Very glad I wasn't wearing one of these.

It 's a stainless steel finish calibre 450 as per the examples on Claudio's page (http://6b159draft.blogspot.co.uk) .. Keep great time for an aged old thing .. Mine's not issued but I prefer the stainless finish as it doesn't suffer the brassing you sometimes see on the issued chromed fellas .. But it's the hands that do it for me - if someone did a modern reissue with heat blued hands in a sensible size, that would be the very thing..
