    Blinds

I know its a bit of a boring one but here it goes

I've just moved house and need some blinds. I have had a quote from a local company and if I had the cash I wouldn't hesitate as they have been fantastic but the quote has confirmed I will have to get made to measure and fit myself.

So there are many places to get blinds on the web, I've looked at the following:

    www.247blinds.co.uk
    www.blinds-2go.co.uk
    www.web-blinds.com

has anyone used the above and been happy? anyone else I should check out?

Homebase? Our kitchen custom made wooden ones /can't even remember where we ordered them/ went t1ts up a week ago so we've picked up a temporary /read permanent/ ones from the aforesaid store. Ghastly lightweight piece of s.. plastic, does the job though..

I had the same situation last year when I moved house, needed blinds for all the windows but was loath to spend out on made to measure wooden blinds due to the crazy high cost. So what I did was buy some nice wooden venetian blinds from Dunelm Mill in various colours, the same as below link:

    http://www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/25mm...-blinds-201733

I then got a painter and decorator chap I know to then cut the blinds to size, he did all five sets of blinds for £50, now you could easily do this yourself with a jigsaw, its just that I am rubbish at DIY. They are now made to measure and they are great blinds. Worth a go if you can the size nearest to your window which shouldn't be too much of a problem as they have quite a lot of different ones.

I used www.lifestyleblinds.com just before Christmas and the lady I dealt with (name evades me) was very helpful. Ordered 8 fabric roller blinds for most of the house and no problems.

4 years ago I kitted my flat out with 4 aluminium venetian blinds from www.ambitionblinds.co.uk. Again, very helpful, there was an issue with one of them (wrong colour) and I had a replacement within 48 hours.

When measuring yourself, do not forget to measure three points in each dimension and take the smallest. You'll be surprised how pissed your walls are, 5 or 10mm some of mine in places.

The blinds from John Lewis are really good quality and are discounted fairly often on their website.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

They were cheap and they arrived quickly. Will they last forever? I doubt it but in the short to medium term, they serve a purpose. Will I order from them again? Yep.

I used web blinds for my whole house, fantastic and still looking good 4 years later, it was meant to be a temp fix until we had shutters fitted but they looked so good we kept them.

my windows are odd sizes too, so it was great measuring up and having them fit perfect, just take care when measuring up.

+1 for Hillarys, Used them about 6 years ago. Recently had a problem with the winding mechanism on a couple of them.
Phoned them up and they sent me 3 new winders free of charge.

Does anybody know of a good-value online service that makes from cloth supplied by the customer? I have some silk bought in India a few years ago and it would make an excellent roman blind for SWMBO's study.

247blinds, cheap and cheerful. Really flimsy venetians, like you wouldn't imagine. Ah, that's why they were so cheap, doh!

We've used blinds 2 go for wooden blinds and Tuiss for Roman blinds. Both have had quality issues which required at least one blind replacing that said I can't fault the customer service from either company. Upon photographic proof of the issues both companies replaced the blinds without further question.

Obviously it's a little inconvenient at the time but given the price and the look once finished even the Mrs is happy (and she's a fussy bugger).
