Thread: Smiths PRS-68 on something other than the bracelet

Smiths PRS-68 on something other than the bracelet

I've just taken delivery of a Smiths PRS-68 and it looks great. It's currently sat in my desk drawer winking at me, but I can't wear it yet because the bracelet would be too big and I don't like bracelets anyway.

This evening, then, I intend to whip it off the bracelet and try some different options. My default solution would be a NATO, RAF style, but I'm wondering if the head would be too heavy for that. Otherwise I have one of Eddie's chunky rubbers and the supplied rubber and possibly the new two-piece nylon with deployant.

I couldn't find much discussion and pictures with the search function and for some reason I don't get paging buttons on this sub-forum to manually look through previous topics. Is that just me?

So, other than the bracelet, what is everyone wearing theirs on?

Edited to add that I've just worked out how to get to older posts and I'll add some photos of my own tomorrow probably.

I don't have one (yet) but if I did it would be straight on to a rubber strap.

I read that review (a couple of times) - very interesting.

First impressions for me are that it is much larger than I was expecting, but I've never had a real cushion case watch before, so it's probably that. But it is very comfortable, I think because the extra surface area on the wrist makes the watch a whole lot less top heavy.

It is also far more blingly than I was expecting and by that I mean that the dial and surrounds of the chapter markers catch the light. The dial also seems to be a lovely deep blue - I'm not sure if it is the dial itself or the AR coating on the crystal. Either way, it looks great.

Here are some pictures that I took this morning - not very good ones, I'm afraid, but you get the idea.

    Black Zuludiver NATO, RAF style

Eddie's new green NATO (very nice colour), matches the greeny markers very well.

Orange, which works much better on the PRS-18 for some reason.

^^You really get a feeling of how large the watch is compared to a Speedbird and an 18^^
    Cheers.

It's all in the width and "squareness" of the case, not the dial or bezel.

I think it's also not as tall as the 18. It certainly feels that way, the 18 has quite a slab-sided bezel, which makes it appear taller than it actually is.

How about a mesh strap: Mesh strap for PRS68 - Smiths diver?

    Hi Murray,

how about a nice vintage leather strap:

Eddie' silicon strap is comfy but does attract dust:

There are plenty of other rubber bands (e.g. caoutchouc) that are suitable:

    A Hirsch Accent:

    A vintage tropic strap:

Having said that you really should try the bracelet:

    Cheers

Bought this for my orange sumo, but as the 68 was already out of the watch box thought I'd try it on this first...

That's impossible imho. The space between the watch case and the springbars is too narrow so that the fatter rubber bands can't be installed. I' ve tried it - no way...

I've ended up on the rubber strap that it came on, which is very comfortable.

Although I do like the look of that leather strap, I might have to see if I've still got a Hirsch Liberty in my strap bag.

I like the look of the rubber strap it comes with but it attracts too much dust and lint for me, is there anything similar out there?

Look for one of these Bonetto Cinturini straps.
I think they are made from isoprene artificial rubber (?) and have that awful vanilla stench (at least for me...) . I put mine into a bag with freshly grounded coffee for two days, now - this is a flavor that I like!

Get an Hirsch Accent (or an other of these Hirsch strap): natural rubber, no stench, excellently made - expensive!

There are still these vintage tropic straps from the sixties. But they might break some day? Their thick side is still a little fat so that the don't turn easily within the lugs.

Go to and www.watch-band-center.com put caoutchouc by Meyhofer 20mm into their Product search. See anything you like?

Great idea about the coffee as I'm not really that keen on the vanilla smell, I really like the look of the Hirsch strap as it looks great on the 68.

    Smith's PRS-68

That is a great looking watch. I especially like it on the mesh bracelet. I recently purchased the Voyager but this might be next on my list. Very nice everyone.

I wear mine on one of Eddie's Bond NATOs. It is a great combination, IMHO. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos.

Looks great Samwatch, I like the perlon esque nature of that strap on this watch.

To my mind it looks so much better on a nato which is a dilemma as I've a couple of similar watches that I'd like to wear with bracelets but they just don't look 'right'.

I've really enjoyed all these pics and link to watcharama review. It seems a '68 is the way to go next for me when funds allow. Sound so wrong but looks so right on orange NATO.

OP - I think nothing will suit to be truthful. I'll have it off you to take one for the team and carry on the search for a suitable strap. PM me and we'll get the deal sorted ;)
