My local newsagent sells Lion's Midget gems & Sports Mixtures. The Maynard ones are tasteless.

I loved Spangles, especially the 'Old English' ones. The ones I really miss though are licquorice gums, Rowntrees I think. Their advertising was cowboy-themed, for some reason. The old Fruit Gums were much nicer than the present incarnation too, especially the boxed ones.

What else - oh yes Fry's Five Centres - like Chocolate Cream, but with five different fruity flavours (and colours).

    Happy days.

Everything was cowboy themed in those days!

Gawd yes. Dark chocolate with a seductive series of fruit flavoured centres.

    Yummy.
    Cheers,

Yes but I think they're owned by Maynards now, too soft and no liquorice! Definitely not the real deal anymore.
Spanish liquorice sticks, they were rock hard and very bitter..........lovely :)

No, Lion is owned by Tangerine confectionery and the product is still made in the Lion factory in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire.

Maynards produce the 'Sports Mix' in a hanging bag which is in no way anything like Lion.

Bazooka Joe's, that takes me back.

Used to get a little comic in the packet with some special offer or another if you saved up enough comics.

I got a "werewolf ring" that you blew into and made a siren-like sound.

Still remember I had to post off to Harold Hill, Essex.
    Cheers,
    Neil.
