Surprised nobody has mentioned gobstoppers, the big variety about 1" diameter that changed colour as you worked your way through the layers, they had a tiny black 'pip' in the centre.
Proper Midget Gems, Poor Bens, Licquorice Tablets, Butterscoth Tablets and Fruit Salad made by Lion in Cleckheaton, not the poor substitute now available.
I remember a variation of this which I'd get at lunchtime at school and would last hours and changed colour and flavour as you ate them. Eventually you'd get to the sour core, dinosaur eggs I think they were called. I loved them.
Edit: been googling and realised they were called DinaSOUR eggs:
I wish they still made these, I crave them even now!

Surprised no one has mentioned liquorish allsorts, and they are still around today.
A lot of these my current company manufacture ;)
Just a few products that have been mentioned on this thread.
Refreshers, Dip Dabs, Fruit Salad, Black Jack, Lion (Midget Gems, Sports Mix etc), Wham, Anglo Bubbly. All produce of Tangerine Confectionery. I have worked there for nearly 9 years, but that ends in 5 weeks time. Time for a new challenge. Great brands though.
Freddo the frogs & Furry friends chocolate
Old Jamaica
Nutty bars
And has anyone mentioned you don't get chocolate spanners, saws or screwdrivers in selection boxes or stockings any more?
So glad somebody mentioned splicer bars, I've never met anybody who actually remembers them, genuinely beginning to wonder if they were my imagination. Also loved popping space candy and those coloured sheets of edible paper (can still remember they tasted like cardboard).
I loved Spangles, especially the 'Old English' ones. The ones I really miss though are licquorice gums, Rowntrees I think. Their advertising was cowboy-themed, for some reason. The old Fruit Gums were much nicer than the present incarnation too, especially the boxed ones.
What else - oh yes Fry's Five Centres - like Chocolate Cream, but with five different fruity flavours (and colours).
Happy days.
