Forerunner to swatch apparently... What do you think?

Google throws up nothing (so the claim to be ultra rare seems about right) on this search, but, I've the opportunity acquire this

It's carbon fibre NOS from 1969 and has some form of hand wound movement... I am rather struck with the aesthetic, but, 300 eur seems like a lot?

Anybody know anything about it... And what your opinion on the 'look'?

    Ben

I have no insight at all into the history or the value, but that would be a lovely thing to have.

Nice dial and hands, not so keen on the case. It might be better in the flesh. Interesting watch though..

Looks very similar to the Buler Grand Prix which is from the same era, and easier to find on google.

Can't comment on price since it's seems to vary a lot.

    Sure it's not fibreglass?

I'm fairly sure it'll be fibreglass, not carbon-fibre.

That's what I'd be thinking too FWIW. Carbon fibre in 1969 would be a rare material to see outside of aerospace. Very pricy too and I'm not sure the technology was mature enough to allow watch cases to be made, but I could be way off there. It certainly has the stylistic look of the era alright, though that style continued well into the 1970's. There are a couple of mid 70's French Yema watches that would have a very similar look. It's a very cool watch, but 300 quid seems a bit steep to me W? IMHO Endo's post noting the similarity to the Buler GP is spot on. Looks near identical. Maybe look at what the Bulers fetch on the bay etc to help with your decision.

Doesn't one of the forum members, 9.59?, collect Noryl-cased Bulers?

I just checked the Buler Grand Prix.... And yes that looks remarkably similar…. Even the case back… I prefer the look of the Capri though…. A splash more orange never goes amiss!!!

Be aware that the movement will likely be low grade in these.

Yes definately fibreglass as you can tell from the surface texture and certainly from the age of the watch as its highly unlikely carbon fibre was used on anything commercial.

If it's fibreglass is it likely to start cracking or craze at some point?

Yep, that might be a concern that it's a pin pallet type movement, so timekeeping might be "vague". These are front loaders IIRC? So servicing could be a pain. Here's a thread from TZ on the Buler
