4830/82 is a CWC issue number. Precista G10 issue numbers range from 95xx/82 to 144xx/82.

So, by that reasoning we could be looking at a CWC case with a Precista dial?

Do you have any more info on these serial numbers? I think it would help many others if they're looking for a particular piece.

Going off your info I'd assume that based on that number range, and the serial numbers not being month-specific (sequential?) the Precista we're only issued for a short period during 1982, let's say August for arguments sake. Would it be safe to safe to say that it makes the legitimate ones more desirable?

Someone with the same name asking about a suspect precista but with 0552 case back. I still like it but can't imagine finding a correct case back will be easy

If it is a 1982 'Fat Boy' case I'd say its an 82 Precista with an 82 CWC caseback. Based on issued numbers I've recorded, this is roughly the ranges of 1982 issued CWC and Precista G10s'.

    Batch 1 - CWC W10 - 119/82 to 9337/82 (roughly 9,400 pieces)

    Batch 2 - Precista W10 - 9430/82 to 14463/82 (roughly 5,100 pieces)

    Batch 3 - CWC W10 - 14696/82 to 16893/82 (roughly 2,200 pieces)

    Batch 4 - CWC 0552 - 17082/82 to 17360/82 (roughly 250 pieces)

Lots of useful info there Terry. I did not realise that my CWC '82 is a batch 1. I have 2 of the Precista Fat boys and reassuringly, the serials match up with what you are saying.
I like the Precista hands more than the CWC. The shiny finish makes them stand out much more than the CWC equivalent.

I think that there are better watches out there than the OP's link but it is a waiting game.

Very helpful thread, as I was looking at a couple of Precista 82's on ebay and from this info I realised one appeared to have a CWC batch 1 backplate, which obviously I steered clear of.

    Cheers,

Just acquired a CWC 0552/82 direct from a MOD military surplus agent within this given range.

One thing through that confuses things is the 83 issue, which I believe continued the same consecutive serial number. However I've seen old sales listings for early examples with serial numbers of 17137 and 17144?

Anybody any ideas whats going on?

    Ed,

Have you got any images of 17137 & 17144? According to the data I've listed these should be 0552/ 1982 issue.

I gave up recording 1983 issue numbers because there are so many of them. What I do have for the first batch of 83 is as follows.

    W10 - 17878 - 83 (with Precista dial) followed by
    W10 - 18142 - 83 to 18224 - 83 all with CWC dials

Thanks Ed, all duly added to my database.

W10/17144 - 83 does sit in the 0522 serial number batch so we need to accept variations in analysis where we see them.

    Odd one for sure.

If I'm right in thinking 82 to 84 was one contract placed with two manufactures; CWC and Precista and the S/N ran consecutively during this two year period, with potentially allocated S/N blocks and production numbers given to each manufacture for each year of the contract.

Therefore I wonder if this last batch of 82's were an additional procurement above the original contract due to the the Falklands conflict and the 83's didn't get their allocated S/N blocks changed to reflect the extended 82 production?
