My new old stock G Shock MR-G Jyuryoku Maru, only two hundred made so unlikely to see another in the wild.

Just arrived with me yesterday. My first G-Shock purchase in a long time and my first Casioak! Really pleased so far!

Hi mate, is the LCD display always that colour or do you have to press a button to light it up? Really fancy one of these.

Very nice. The new U version. I guess you were able to buy it without import fees too. We’re still waiting here in the UK to see if they’ll be available or not. I’ve not succumbed yet to another Seiya purchase with the dreaded fees.

It's a great watch, especially for the price you paid. Finishing is excellent and extremely comfortable to wear 👍

I bought mine from Seiya a few weeks ago. It arrived within 72 hours and no fees…..

Haven't worn my GW-5000 on the strap really (I use a combi-bracelet), but thought I'd give it a go (and I've chopped the strap so I don't have a long tail hanging out).

I do like the fact that on the new 5000U you can flip the date set-up to the non-US style, but I'm not sure it's enough to make me want to switch from the 'old' 5000.

On an aside, I do like chopping the end off on G-Shock straps because I don't like the tail hanging out. I miss being able to do it on my GA-2100, because I can't find a sensible source for the straps (and I do like to be able to bring it back to original if needed).

Just goes to show how photos don’t tell the full story when it come to watch size. I wear mine on the third hole from the end of the strap so there’s about 0.5cm of tail sticking out of the keeper - and yet in this picture it looks about the same size as yours on my 8 3/4 inch wrist

Which is mad! My wrist is about 6.75 inch for comparison (17.5cm anyway)

    Can’t decide which I prefer….

I think I might keep the orange/grey/green one.

What a fabulous problem! My head says the blue as it would suit more occasions/attire.....but my heart says orange and green, orange and green, orange and green! Think I'd go with my heart.

    Show your G-Shocks

So, after the original watch was given a new battery and stripped of its over 15 years old original bezel and strap, complete with dots of every colour paint I’ve used on the house in that time (and given a good scrub) about £70 later - with some bits coming from Scotland, some Holland - I’ve recreated a bit of 80’s nostalgia I reckon! Cue my wife - ‘Rob, you’re 52 years old, why are you wearing a children’s watch? - hmm, I have no defence!

    Because it's cool!

(I love the look of a yellow G, haven't bitten the bullet and got one yet, but the time is definitely coming...)

Did you not have the GBD-H100?

  35. #6785
No, my comments on that watch were garnered from a thread on watchuseek. I found the modules in these really peculiar - no running seconds, and the functions change when you release the button not when you press it. I think all the MIP display watches are like that for some reason.

Anyone got a Frogman Royal Navy Edition? I've only just discovered them and think they might be the best looking G-Shock I've ever seen.

I nearly bought one as they look fantastic but went for the GWF-A1000-1A4 instead. Had to sell it on unfortunately to fund an MRG-G1000 but it is an excellent watch👍

    Haha, no cliff-edge teetering here! I wouldn't spend that on a G-Shock.

Down to these 6. Thinking about getting down to just 3 but will be tough deciding which to let go.

No me neither, goes against the ethos of a watch you can bang about and not worry IMHO. Plus my 50+ eyes can’t read anything on the dial except for the 3 main hands which makes the other functions somewhat redundant!!!

Am I the only person who thinks G Shocks look like the Happy Meal equivalent of a Richard Mille?

No, there’s at least 2 of us. I’m happy to wear a Casio F91 for DIY jobs, running, or wrestling with stepdaughters Labrador ( a lovely old dog, I have to let him win thesedays) but other than that I wouldn’t be seen dead in one. On an aesthetic scale of 1-10 they score around -20, don’t let anyone tell you that a G shock or similar plastic watch looks anything other than shit. They’re functional, but so is bog- roll.

There’s such a broad range of styles - and a lot of them fit that description, particularly a lot of the more recent releases. But I think a lot of them look great too - even within the same model range there is so much variety in colours and finishes I think it’s difficult to make such a sweeping statement. I think the Speedmaster looks like a fussy granddads watch (I’ve had a few and just never bonded) and I’m 52, so we’re all different!

I’ve been resurrecting this old DW-8800 with a new battery and cheap strap from eBay.

I have the nato for it too, just waiting for new strap adaptors to arrive as I lost the originals at some point in the last 20 years!
