Looking through my old Gs last night, realised my DW-5300 (901 module) battery was about to fail so replaced it this afternoon.
Nice to see the date starting at 1985, but a little odd considering that the watch itself wasn't released until 1994, so Casio clearly hadn't done much in 9 years to develop the smaller G module further, I guess they thought why change a good formula ? The 5300 was only manufactured for around a year, but isn't particularly rare.

    More info here : http://50-gs.blogspot.com/2011/05/g-...ledw-5300.html

Mine's the gold LCD, buttons and bezel printing variant, unlike the standard steel one shown above. I've never seen any spare bezels for it - it's not popular enough for the people who make the 5000/5600C Brazilian bezels to do a replica so I'm hoping it doesn't rot away in a hurry...

That’s pretty cool - what does the REM indicator on the dial mean, and next to the pusher?

I'll be honest, I'm not really sure. I've googled it a bit, but don't really understand what it's for. It can't have been that useful, or they'd have kept it in current modules 🙂

There's something on the link you posted. If you push the button for 2 seconds a little black bar is added to the screen as a reminder. The link says it's like tying a knot in a handkerchief. Seems like one of the less useful G Shock ideas 😁

I think it was supposed to be used as a subtle alarm.
You would see REM on your watch, which bring your attention to the fact that you needed to do something.
So although it would REMind you, you would have to remember what it was.
The days before mobile phones etc

    That’s my interpretation

That seems perfectly reasonable, albeit a bit pointless :)

Nearly as pointless as the ‘code name’ I had in the 90’s that would beep out morse code messages, but that was much more fiddly to set and I can’t think how it could even be vaguely useful. It even had engravings in the caseback for some kind of universal rescue signs to carve in a beach if you got shipwrecked?!?

    Hahaha :)
I've also owned ones that if you had infinite patience you could use to store phone numbers and other details. Waste of time, but a cool gadget in the late 80s / early 90s.

Weren't those called memory bank watches? A bit premium for me but I remember happily playing with the calculator watch during maths lessons.

Finally sourced one of these from Casio UK.
Instant impression was, “Wow, this is heavy!” An incredibly solid build. Delighted to finally get the date showing correctly, but now all my other G’s look wrong?!
Must size the bracelet and get it on the wrist.

This is a recent acquisition - 35th anniversary. Had to put the metal keeper in the box and add a standard rubber as it kept moving (and there’s barely any spare ‘tail’ on the strap). Not a massive fan of gold but love the fancy lcd on this, and the screwback case gives a bit more heft (though not a huge amount more than the plastic cased g’s tbh) - I prefer these more retro models but perhaps that’s because I first started wearing them as a schoolboy 35 years ago!

I’m really tempted by one of these as a proper ‘retro updated’ G. They seem to be in stock all over the place at the moment, not just Casio online. I assume the bracelet is adjusted by way of little springbars like on the composite bracelets? A brilliant design imho and makes sizing a cinch

Always amazed at how much easier the reverse dial is to read in bright light.
Presently worn at Thunder in the Glens - Aviemore.

Another Master of G in da house.
    Another one with blue highlights.
    The bezel is a beaut.
I'm sure it bashes up nicely.
Time will tell if this is a beater or not.

Hey DD - congrats on the left one! How do you find this particular version of the 8200 - its one of the 35th anniversary 'origins', correct?

Thanks a lot and you're correct! It's the GF-8235D 35th Anniversary Frogman. It's my girlfriends Froggy and she absolutely loves it - Really great looking ( especially the bling bling dial ) and it's also perfect for smaller wrist sizes. Few more shots this weekend Well done Casio
