Shouldn't be any VAT due. The company doing the service should mark the customs slip 'returned from service' and won't attract VAT.
Excuse me if this has been asked before
but does anyone know what tax is due when a watch is returned from Switzerland after a service (directly to the owner,me, & not via a watch shop/agent)

I believe that you should really send it as “for service to be returned” and fill in a special customs form for this to be assured.
Check with customs.
What about VAT on the service cost?
