    manual wind chronograph

Following on from the recent manual wind thread, I'd really like to add a manual wind chrono to my rotation but it's not an area I know a lot about. My favourite at the moment is the Heuer Bundeswehr but what others are there that I should be considering?

I prefer vintage over new and a budget of around £1500 though I wouldn't want that to limit the suggestions to much.

    thanks!

    I agree.

The Heuer Autavia 7763 is also worth a look and anything with a Val.72 or Val.726 movement, there are still a few in the price range.

it's definitely on the list, though I don't know much about the various vintages. Which is the one to get?

Although you may not be considering new, Stowa offer some good models which they convert to manual wind for 300euro. They would be in the region of £1600 once converted.

You might find a Breitling Navitimer if you're lucky and the Top Time's in range.

I picked up a Valjoux 7734 powered chrono just before Christmas for about a fifth of your budget.

If you fancy a cheaper option how about the classic Poljot 3133? Loads of good examples to browse here: http://polmax3133.com/
If not, go with the Speedy :D

RAF issue seventies chronograph from CWC, Newmark, Precista or Hamilton would be in your budget. Or a brand-new, modern CWC interpretation from Silvermans.

You could look out for a vintage Chronographe Swiss with a Landeron movement.
All the look of a 5170 for a fraction of the price!

    MKII is within range

Although a bit over budget, there are other colour variants of this (73663) that might be closer

Normally I'd say no to the speedy pro to get something different, but i can't. It's a faultless purchase lol.

Though as I've got one if I had 1500 spare I'd be buying this little peach.

^^ all of those are so nice, the top time is a bit of a revelation actually.. it's the first brietling that I really like the look of. I wonder how it would look on a NATO.

there's a DLC'd MKII speedmaster at Carter Marsh in Winchester, looks fab.

Modern repro - have a look at Silvermans website, there are different iterations.

I also have an original version which was my daily wearer for 20 years or so, but which I retired from active service.

Both of these hand crankers are within your price range and relatively modern but have a vintage vibe, especially the Hanhart with its archaic 1939 styling. The Hanhart is not a flyback like the original, it is a Valjoux 7760 reworked for the bi-compax layout and asymmetrical pushers. It is beautifully finished, the bezel is firm but rotates smoothly, even the hands are finished like the blasted case.

The Speedy is the 1957 reissue, ref: 3594.50 and came on a bracelet but I prefer it on a strap with an Omega deployant. It is basically a Speedy Pro with a different handset, dial, bezel and case back.

thanks for the post, they both look great. Some real crackers so far, it's gonna be hard to choose. I think it'll be a case of whichever I see on SC first.

all of the above are great suggestions. Particularly like the Brietling- not come across that before. Of the speedy and mil CWC/Hamilton if you want something a bit more unusual go for the mil chrono- original of course. Have a look on the military watch forum as well as here. Good luck!
