The Timberland gortex moc's have gone to that great boot place so i picked these up from TK Max for £29.99 not in the same league but will nicely for dog walking.
English make Chatham well overpriced at RRP but ok at what i paid.

Think it has to be a pair of Panama Jacks for me this year. Not sure which ones between these two though:

Fur lined boots are very warm. I wear them when temperature drops below -7, -10 degrees.

Yea, even though I live in the Lakes think the fur lined ones will be too warm for me.

Whilst trying on the Wolverines I found them to be great-looking and also comfortable, although I didn't care for the smooth leather sole that I knew would slip on snow and ice (which we get a lot of here). I liked the commando sole on the Red Wings, but during the trying-on phase I couldn't find a size that was even close to comfortable. The nice lady at the shop said "oh yes, you will probably have blisters for the first few weeks", to which I said "balls to that" and bought the Wolverines. Then I had my shoe guy put on a commando lug sole protector, which has upped the grip tremendously. The result looks like this:

After a few days of wearing they're getting broken in nicely and are very comfortable. They're also great-looking, I think. The leather is Horween, which I suppose makes this post somewhat watch-related in a way...
Really nice, I like the addition of the sole protector.

Was glad of my fur lined Panama jacks last winter, I didn't find them too warm for UK winter, were spot on!

Personally I do. I purchased a pair of Panamas a couple of years ago for the colder months and find them very comfy and well made. I'll not look at Timberland again. Their service was excellent as well as I ordered a pair that was half a size too small. Returned them and got the replacements very quickly.

Never had Panama Jacks but have heard good things about them. Do own a couple of Timberlands and do like them but time for a change this winter.

  11. #661
I fancy a pair of Chelsea’s...it’s about the only boot style I don’t own!! Has anyone got the Loake Chatsworth? - https://www.loake.co.uk/chatsworth-suede.html I can get them with discount for £185. Are the offerings from Cheney or C&J worth the extra £200? All my other boots are Loake. Any deals out there on good English Chelsea boots?

Picked up this pair of Redwings for $129 on my trip to USA in the summer.

They got soaked a few weeks back - so I oiled them & they’ve gone a bit darker now.

Shame - but still great winter boots.

I did see a few pairs of Loake Chelsea boots on the tkMaxx website not long ago for about £100ish.
I wish I could wear them, they're my favourite boot but I've got skinny ankles and I've never had a good fit with them.

Cheers, I’ll have a look. Debenhams is my go to for Loake 1880 as their sale often has Loake 1880 for £70 ish!! Nothing at the moment though.

A question for the Panama Jack wearers, I like the look of the Aviator and the Amur, but I need something that's waterproof and warm for walking the dogs, the Amur is gore-tex lined, but not got the fur, are the Aviators waterproof?

  17. #667
If you want to go down the Red Wing route then get a proper winter boot such as the Ice cutters that will last you for years. I've had mine for a few years now and have been excellent. A full Vibram sole with a wool lining that keeps your feet warm but not too hot.

Yep as long as you use something like Mink Oil on them. They aren’t lined with Gortex but I’ve never had a problem with them. The Aviators are warm but have synthetic fur- I have another pair (can’t remember the style) which has the real fur and they are toasty.

Fancy a pair of moc toes.

Do people recommend redwing or thorogood?

    Or a cheaper alternative?

Also how's the fitting in these? Wide or narrow.

    Thanks in advance

Never had Thorogood but I have quite a few pairs of red Wings. I would say these are boots you need to try on in person. I have 4 diff types and I think I'm 3 different sizes.

I have both and slightly prefer the thorogood. Sizing is correct for me and they are comfortable out of the box.

The moc toe is more prominent than in the redwing and they are Norwegian welted.

Redwings are good but take some breaking in the leather is much thicker and less supple.

I’m a big DM fan, had a pair of their Gaucho boots for years, rub in plenty of Bees Wax and they come up a treat.

Crimbo prez arrived a few days early. Cheaney's monkey boots

After years of buying a new pair of timberland classics every winter, I bought some ice cutters this year, they’re perfect, and will last a lot longer than timberlands.

Admittedly it was a good few years ago but I always found DM's useless in winter, they always leaked at the first sign of snow. Now more a fashion brand I'd say.

They’re much better than the Vietnamese ones but as has been mentioned, they’re not the best winter boots as they let the water in....

Those that went for Panama Jack Aviators, did you go for standard or Igloo? Both seem same apart from synthetic liner vs sheepskin?

Went for standard but have two pairs of Glasgow’s (black and brown) Igloos. Both are great but the igloos are a little bit warmer.

Just gone for igloo Panama Jacks after third year of my feel feeling cold in Red Wing Iron Rangers. Although the Iron Rangers are great in Autumn and Spring, they are not three season boots...

Cheers guys, Zalando currently have the standard Aviators at £108 but in black and I'm never really 100% sold on black shoes/boots. Cheapest I can find in browns is around £150

Thinking I go with standard and top up with my alpaca socks when it's really cold.

Agree, that's why I went for the brown. Got the igloo as it wasn't much more and might as well be toasty.

Only in the outlet - the craftmaster seems to have be made in smallish numbers and once the stock goes of a particular type they don't make more:

(the photos are better here than on the Clark's outlet)

Clarks I would guess - they reopened some production in the UK a few years ago and these started to appear at the same time.

The Clarks boots look nice. Like the write-up about them on the site.

I bought a pair of Timberland boots in dark blue (sapphire) the other day in a nubuck finish. Mainly because the brown ones I bought a few years back have been caked in mud from watching my son play football and I fancied a smarter looking pair. They come with an Ortholite insole and feel pretty comfortable. All for the bargain price of £77.

Actually - looking further into this - seems that the Clarks factory for the mass production stuff... so I'm not sure who makes these boots - Clarks or ?????

Pick from loake, Sanders, NPS, trickers, church's/cheaney. I guess Edward Green, lobb, gaziano and girling are less likely to be doing contract work?

Have you tried NPS? I have some patent dress shoes for piss ups in the mess but not looked at them for other stuff.
