Just picked up a pair of unworn Altbergs locally on Facebook Marketplace for £50, they make a decent boot, just breaking them in at the moment.

    Ah, you're a good swimmer :)

I'm sure they are an F last but fit more like my Grenson G.

Got both sets of laces with my boots Pete?

Beautiful boots but found them a bit clumpy so they are going back I’m afraid!

Good timing, I've just taken my Red Wing Ice Cutters out of storage and in the process of cleaning / proofing them in readiness for his winter . I have to say the boots have never let me down, over the last 7 years and I've looked after them so they still look good. Another adavantage is they have a wool liner to keep your feet warm The full vibram sole also helps to give excellent traction in snow/mud so I'm not really looking for another winter pair/ except, the only downside is that they are not really 'smart' or business friendly so I'd be interested in seeing different styles and opinions from the more traditional shoe makes in the UK and see If I can be tempted to buy another winter pair.

    It's winter boot time

Am I the only person that keeps an identical spare pair of unworn boots just in case my original pair wear out / need repairing?
My original pair of Courtney’s have been in almost daily winter wear for the last 5 years and they are still going strong
I coated them up in dubbing a few weeks ago ready for the coming winter. Fashionable they are not but they are by far the most comfortable boot I have ever owned.
They are Cape Buffalo (main), Kudu (re enforcement) and Impala (trim) leather so should last a few more years yet.

Still not got around to getting a pair of these for the filthy weather/commute to work. I’ve Yuketen, Paraboot, Diemme and Fracap but these are real work horses according to my friends reports.
Realistically i’m going to be in work 2-3 weeks in total from the end of November until the end of February, start of March so will hopefully dodge the worst of the weather. Decisions, decisons…

I also buy two pairs of the boots and trainers I really like with the view of saving one but always end up wearing both but having one good pair and one ruined pair side by side.

For redwings I have a bunch but I much prefer the chukkas. More comfortable for me by some distance.

That is spot on seriously hardyt boots - I have another pair in blue that are a couple of years old and they are bullet proof - nightmare to break in though in the first instance so Id advise wearing them at home to break them in

Lovely pair of boots and I have owned Red Wings in the past.

The only downside is that this particular sole tends to wear a bit too fast.

I’m quite heavy on my plates so that’s a bit of a downer. P’s me off when they put soles on boots costing a good few hundred quid and they wear quickly, more so that in recent years the cost of getting them done has risen astronomically.

I'm sure the quality will have dropped in recent times but the only boot I've not had this on is Timberland. I have the typical extra wear on the right side of the heel with all my red wings.

Last pair of Timberland boots i bought were some 28 years ago or so and they were brilliant. The reviews and quality since then have gone way down from what i’ve read and seen. They make an America Craft boot that look very nice but seem to be very hard to buy over here.

That is the reason I stick with Timberland 6 inch heritage classics premiums. The soles are bomb proof, as are the uppers too.

Cant say Ive had any issues with the soles wearing down on my redwings, nor my grenson freds or my tricker ethan (all that have gum soles) and Ive got some timberland boat shoes as a comparison and wouldnt say Ive seen any difference across the brands in my experience

I seem to remember a thread or some posts about getting timberland / Panama Jack's boots resoled but can't find them. I've got a pair of Panama's that are need of resoling, does anyone have any recommendations?

These again for this those harsh winter days. The oil leather burnt orange pair I picked up for £50 in the US in 2007.

I have lots of other boots so they do get worn in rotation.

Had my old moc toe's resoled last year at Redwing approved and they came back like new.

Also folks give Danner a look, their moc toes are very good and a tad cheaper than RW's

Got my Red Wing Rovers on today. Really comfortable and I can wear these all day with no issue. The soles have worn quite quickly though.

Ok, Le C looks overkill for the grass you are standing in. It doesn’t look even remotely water logged or requiring wellies. Great wellies when required, this was not that occasion.

No idea where you are located but I’ve been outside in a T-shirt for most of last week and the weekend. So as for the coat, and then being photographed in them, wow.

What are the weird round rubber vent type things by your knees on the trousers?

I’m intrigued and amused in equal measures. Pressure release valve? Do you pump air in, so your trousers match your jacket? Haha.

Edit to add - you’re in London. Have a word with yourself!

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated, thinking about it I was wearing a DSSD that day but bizarrely enough I didn’t have my diving gear either
