Thread: It's winter boot time

Buy them if you like the style for walking around town but don't expect too much from them.

    I’d forgotten I had these

    Moc toe black suede RedWings.
I picked them up in the USA a few years back for about £30... as they were in clearance section - lucky for me no Americans are size 7 !

Someone else who has child’s feet like me! I am a 7 in Loakes, but Red Wings run so large that I prefer a 6.5.

If you think blundstone are comfortable try redbacks they’re on another level to blundstone comfort

You just have to be careful what you buy - my craft masters and dessert welt boots are made in England and have a really welt and are rock solid.

I actually bought the £42 boots above and they are fine.

They are a little more industrial looking than the Blundstones

Yes that’s true they’re not as versatile to dress up but god the comfort is the best I’ve had from boots

Been wearing my Red Wings for last 3 years and got them resoled a few months ago. They will last for years as the leather is so thick.

How do you find they size? True to size or would you recommend buying a size down or up?

    It's winter boot time

They run very large in my experience. Compared to something like a pair of Nike trainers you have to go a full size down. In my case compared with Nike I sized 1.5 down.

As further comparison I half size down from Loakes, and find them similar sizing to Grenson.

As has been mentioned the moc toe wears big I tend to abut half a size down

Pardon the pub but they are as tough as old boots

I have three pairs and they I take my usual size. I do wear thicker socks with them though so you could argue they are a little larger.

Correct, they're the Stow, and my fifth pair. I think I'm addicted!

I typically wore an 8 in trainers and off the shelf shoes. In Stow I wear a 7.5 and in Bourton (their shoes) I wear a 7. They're meant to be worn with thick socks, hence the country part.

Their customer service is excellent. They'll happily swap out a size, assuming it's in stock. And I'm sure they'd not mind you buying 2, with the intent to return a pair that doesn't fit.

Thanks, much appreciated. I'll have a look and see if they have a pair in my size . Also good to see you've found a boot that just fit's !

Half price pair of boots; both black grain Grenson Fred’s and brown Grenson Hadleys militaries in the John Lewis sale if anyone is interested.

    Most sizes still currently available

It only makes sense to buy 2 more pairs, and to round that up to 10.

I have other Tricker's, and other makes, this is my Stow collection...

🤣 thing is I bought a shoe rack a few years ago, one of those tall ones and it's full.
Had to buy some boxes for my trainers due to lack of space.

Those coloured laces are a great addition to those boots !

I tried red laces in my tan brogue boots and my partner said they looked like Ronald McDonald's boots !

Yep, I've run out of space also. Fitted some wardrobes a few years back and thought I'd never fill the shoe draw I put in there. Hence why I'm now storing boots on shelves.

I find changing the laces adds your own touch.

I have two pairs of Panama Jacks and I find the quality to be excellent. Both purchased in the past 2 to 3 years as well so I would be surprised if quality has dropped off in such a short time frame. What are the complaints?

I've got a pair with the shearling lining and have found them superb over the last 3 Winters. In that time I've applied one coat of dubbin and that's it. Very comfortable as well and warm and waterproof too...I'd buy another pair but can't see these wearing out any time soon....

Yeah, Barker's. The model is called Grant. I picked them up from their factory shop quite a few years ago.

Poor quality and not waterproof are a couple of the gripes.

Had no issues at all with Panama jacks i own a few pairs they’re lasting really well, I swapped to them after being disappointed in the newer timberlands which weren’t lasting at all for me.

Mine arrived today and I know they are supposed to be country boots and not dress boots but the leather is full of scratches and dings. All over the boots.
I don't mind the distressed look but not for this price !?

Exactly same experience for me too. I used Dubbin as well and it kept out freezing muddy water fine on a long walk.

I thought this was an interesting video. Better made than Iron Rangers and probably cost $4-$8 at the time which is $61-$123 now.

Initially bought a pair of Diemmes but they arrived and were the wrong colour and size so they went back! To be honest the quality on them was poor compared to the pair i had years ago, suede was nowhere near as good and the lining, laces and collar wer a bit rubbish.
Bought a pair of Fracap instead and couldn’t be happier. Extra pair of rope laces and a Fracap boot brush included in one of the boots!

Nice- a bit like the Axton boot. I have a similar show version in tan. Sadly too small and I keep meaning to get them stretched.
