This arrived yesterday. A '79 16753 nipple dial. Fitting considering the weather.
Arrived on a jubilee which I thought was a little too Miami for me so went to see Ian at Hamilton and Inches to raid their selection of Kauffman straps. This is part incoming and part recommendation really. The straps are something else. Put some of the better known and discussed makers in the shade. Can't speak highly enough of them or Ian for having a fettle with a timing machine, pressure tester and some polywatch while I was checking out the straps.
Anyway. This is a navy brushed nubuck. It feels like velvet!
Also picked up a matte alligator but haven't fitted that just yet.

And i know the bezel is off :D

That's a lovely thing and your prose has, as usual, made me smile. But, with the greatest respect, a brown and sand coloured watch on a blue strap, are you mental?

Hah. I like to occasionally march to my own drum ;)
Have got a brown strap for sensible occasions.

Delighted with this JLC Master Hometime - it could well be getting preference over my Aqua Terra.

Very simple and elegant, but significant with its 40mm size. Reasonably well decorated in-house cal 975 - you can just about make out the ceramic rotor bearings in the pic below.

Hi it's 231.13.44.50.06.001. The photo makes the hands look chocolate in colour, the whole watch changes in different light conditions, hope this helps

    Speedy.

Thought long and hard about this one vs conventional Speedy but decided I have enough black faced watches.

Love the fact that the dial is slightly off-white, like an Old English white, and the 5-60 markers.

On the bracelet for a couple of weeks then I'll try a distressed brown leather.

    Mark

Ah the Marui! I had one of these once, it also looked great on a black alligator grain strap.

Nice to get my favourite Steinhart back again. This is my third example of the rarer Mark 1. I sold the first on here and had sellers remorse and the second was a mint condition NOS still stickered watch that I just couldn't bring myself to touch, so I let it go. I have been on the lookout for a replacement and found this lovely example.

    upload gif

The mark 1 has the following differences to the Mark 2 pictured below for reference purposes:

    A lovely jet black dial
    Greenish cloured smaller plots
A forward slash in the depth rating rather than an = in the Mark 2
No number 10 in the bezel insert
A pointed internal 4 in the 40 rather than a flat top on the Mark 2

All in all, more desirable than the later version and one of the more difficult Steinhart models to find as most people bought the Military model.

Must keep hold of this one...

Plus it doesn't appear to have the mk. II's horrible aged lume!

Can you explain a bit more about the 4? I can't see the difference.

I think he means that the shape of the space inside the "4". One comes to a point, the other has a horizontal top edge:

Correct, you see this on the old fat font Rolex inserts, on the mark 1,2 & 3 versions the inner area of the 4 looks more like a triangle, but on later inserts and service replacement inserts there is more of a flat top to both the inner area and the outer top. Steinhart seem to have copied this.

Small points, but the 4 in 40 is one of the key numbers to check when trying to guess which insert you have.

I had the same question, thank you for clarifying this. Interesting detail!

In my Pelagos 4 is very thin, now I noticed that and the font is general is a little bit strange:

These are so underrated. I love them. My fave Speedy bar the new Snoopy. For some reason it doesn't appear to be popular. I saw a white dial for half price in Harrods in last year's Boxing Day sales. Was so tempted but couldn't justify it really.
