Thread: The Incoming / New Arrival Thread

    Indeed.

I keep finding myself pondering that the pre camera-phone / pre social-media age (one begat the other) around the 1990s to early 2000s was the high-water mark for “modern” watches that interest me. 5 digit Rolex, Seiko dive watches and Landmasters, early GS and Spring Drive, one of the exactly two Speedmaster Pro options then available, X-33 etc.

Not much since holds my attention for long. Which may be the point, perhaps.

    Back to the thread…

Not the best pics as was losing light but this arrived with me Sunday and really enjoying it so far. This is the C Ward Dune, GMT version. 38mm case, 150m WR. Things I really like so far are the Light Catcher case, the way the GMT rehault makes the dial nice and compact, and the fact that it’s a very versatile watch - stylish, but with rock solid spec, legibility and functionality.

I ordered on the canvas webbing strap which is nice quality but stiff as an ironing board. Should’ve got the bracelet as I’m inevitably gonna order it now anyway. The GMT was a limited edition of 200 which I think is now sold out, mine is no66. Overall very pleased and am tempted to go back in for the white dial 3 hander! Must resist…

This trip's impulse purchase. I was going to get the 43mm Pilot, but something about the aged lume look and the smaller case just caught my eye.

(Actually, I was going to get a 5296G-001 but that's a whole 'nother story)

Hopefully, this will be with me sometime tomorrow.

Been admiring the 104 for a while now and decided to take the plunge.

Thanks all. It is the first time in a long time where I've really been smitten with a watch- it is 18ct white gold and from a superb brand so I was really happy to pick it up. I like the date window as well, and prefer it at 6 I think.

Formex Essence Leggera 'Space Rock' 41mm

I've wanted a meteorite dial for a long time - seems I'll never travel the Universe, so the next best thing is a chunk of the Universe travelling to me, in this case northern Sweden's 'Muonionalusta' meteorite with its characteristic Widmanstätten crystal-structure - at 4.5 billion years old it dates from the time of the Solar System's formation!

I like Formex' watches - they do things differently, yet cleverly: neat adjustable deployants, watches with shock-absorbing suspension-systems for the whole movement/dial assembly, unusual materials, unique designs, &c.

And - having owned a cheapy - I like the lightness and strength of carbon cases - this example goes a step further by incorporating a complete scratch-proof ceramic bezel as well, plus sapphire crystal and a COSC-certified movement (Sellita SW200) - itself also behind sapphire and bearing significant decoration, including perlage, blued screws, &c.

And, owning as I do both a modern Planet Ocean and a super-shiny, ultra-dark blue SLA043, I rrrreeeeeeeeeaaaalllllyyyy needed another watch that's completely impossible to get a decent photograph of...

Anyway, this finally arrived today - I missed the first gen 43mm models from ~3 years ago, but these 41mm are even better, easier to wear, and (surprisingly) £300 cheaper! It took approximately 24 hours to arrive after despatch from Geneva!

It's a lovely thing to wear, even on a NATO - the NATO is a Geckota supplied one, and truly impressive quality, albeit I now realise even the best of them are not for me and I shouldn't have cheaped-out and ordered leather or rubber instead. Mea culpa.

Demerits are small - the meteorite is much shinier and more silvery than I expected, yielding reduced contrast between itself, the hands, and the indices - not ideal when your eyes are going, but not hopeless, and worth it.

The holes in the lugs for the spring bars are set very close to the case - it's supplied with curved spring bars, which are a faff to use and are going to make it impossible to experiment with non-fabric straps; I do wish they'd added a second set of holes sited to accommodate standard straps. This again is minor, it'll go onto an MN at some point anyway.

    So far: infatuated/10

Had that all too familiar feeling after choosing between two similar watches. Did I pick the right one? Of course the best way to know for sure is to have both in hand at the same time. Idea was to finally put the uncertainty to bed choose my favourite and move the other on. Naturally the plan has backfired and I can’t decide…….looks like the incoming blue BB58 is joining rather than replacing the Gilt version.

The Incoming / New Arrival Thread

    A few new incoming recently:

IWC 41 pilot chrono, love the quick strap changing system…have a few leather straps and a rubber one too and it’s great quickly swapping from one to the other to give the watch a different feel…the dial is pretty nice too!

DJ41 arrived yesterday. Missed my old DJ41 rose gold two tone since selling it last year. Happy with this yellow gold version though.

    Carbotech panerai:

Lovely and light and enjoying the stealth look of this.

New incoming for me. Picked up Tuesday before the price increase. Great watch just not sure if a keeper & if I’ll be returning it. Feeling the pull of a Monaco instead (head knows that’s wrong)

Just unsure on the size, dial seems large & not taken with the hands as yet.

A bit of a special incoming, was planning to buy the Daytona green dial, then the world went insane and it became unjustifiable on grey prices.

Omega then launched this beauty, what’s not to like, the moonshine gold is beautiful, the deep green of the dial combined with the ceramic bezel…and it’s a Moonwatch!
