This lot arrived on the slow boat from Japan this week. One was a little smaller than expected, something must have got lost in translation.

The ana-digi was bought for the working module however it is pristine which will make to difficult to pull it apart. Fortunately I don't need the movement yet so I can leave it be.

When buying an early solar watch that is advertised as junk you really, really hope that it does this when held under a strong light :

The module works so all I need is a new capacitor or rechargeable battery. Happy days.

Snap! I’m not a big fan of the bracelet on mine either, so I ordered the rubber strap option. I also found the Di-Modell Chronissimo, which is a waterproof leather strap that fits the SAR, and has the wings that marry up to the width of the outside of the lugs. Check it out!

Well done on your find too, looks good!

This little beauty arrived this week. Just a little bit different from the majority of PAMs and a great addition to the collection. Love the domed crystal, negates the 233 shaped space that I had.
To me to start trying different straps from my excessive 24mm collection.

Unfortunately I don’t have it yet, only bought the SAR last week (mightily impressed by it, btw) and ordered the strap and clasp a couple of days ago. It’ll be 2-3 weeks delivery I’m informed. The clasp from the bracelet fits the rubber, but I wanted to keep them both complete.

Purchases made from James Porter & Son in Glasgow’s Argyll Arcade, and cannot praise them highly enough. A really helpful and accommodating independent, who have taken on Muhle, Sinn and Doxa brands, amongst others, with fine displays and selections of each.

That’ll be handy if you have a 20mm Chronissimo kicking about!

Thanks. As I said it is a bit different. I like the look of the pushers on the case, imho it softens the look of the big crown guard. Lovely piece.

Picked this up on SC. Back on its original bracelet and with a quick buff of the acrylic it looks great. Just love the depth the acrylic adds to the dial

Very similar sized case to the Datejust of the same era.

    The lovechild of these 2

Perfect thanks I’ll give them a shout, a bit too far for me to pay a visit but sounds like a great selection at that independent. Would appreciate your view on the rubber strap when you’ve
    tried it.

Double acquisition; after weeks in lockdown I think my impulse control has suffered rather.

On the upside, they’re both lovely and I got a decent discount. So, y’know, fair’s fair.

I assume that's the Seiko MM200? Also not too bad! How do you find the weight?

    Heh. Thanks.

It is indeed the new SPB185. I really like it, the weight is fine, subjectively no better or worse than the MM200, and the reduced diameter is nice. First impressions are pretty damn good, I have to say.

    LOL

I considered it. Then Mrs Cain noticed and said “who do you think you are? Morten bloody Harket?” Which discouraged me. And dates the pair of us terribly, I suppose. Seiko won.

How does it compare with the mm200 generally?

Still fancy a 187 but the mm200 can be had for a good chunk less at the moment

Is it smaller than the MM200? That is interesting. I thought they were the same size. It looks superb though (must resist, must resist)

I’d be interested to know if these wear smaller than the SPB143 62mas. Even though it’s 42mm vs 40.5.

Would love a side by side if anyone has both?

Yes, they've shaved a couple of mm off the case diameter. The main impact has been to make it "feel" a bit taller than the MM200 but the profile behind the bezel still has a significant under-cut, so it's just as comfortable.

Subjectively, to my eye, this wears bigger than my SPB149. The case and lug shape fits my wrist better, but it looks and feels like a bigger watch. Interestingly, the subjective difference isn't massive, but the MM200 always concealed its size remarkably well, IMO.
