Happy to finally get my hands on this classic. Very comfy to wear, especially on an isofrane. That’s 4 seikos now!

That is a lovely looking strap Wadsy, could you give a bit of info on it. It's just what I've been looking for to go on my Speedy Pro.

The finishing of the movement is pretty good - finer than my GO and even in these pics you can see the anglage. It is probably as good as you will likely get until you go into hand finishing. Ming had initially wanted these to be hand finished but it ended up way too expensive. I have seen his proto with the hand finishing and its stunning.

In general the watch is incredibly well put together and comes across very well finished - with the two box crystals, there isn't much watch case and it is really well done.

It's an SPB037, I think at the upper end of their modest Presage range. It's 40.5mm x 12mm, which is a lovely inbetweeny size - sometimes it feels like a big version of a 37mm watch, sometimes like a small version of a 42mm watch. The dial texture is lovely, the numerals just printed but still pretty.

The price is very much in line with Seiko's new The Higher The Price The More You'll Respect Us policy, and since I got it from the boutique in Knightsbridge I got not a penny of discount. If I had wanted to get it for significantly less, I could have shopped on eBay, where a seemingly very respectable Spanish seller has them. But this particular purchase was, for various reasons, needful of being free of the uncertainties and inconveniences of the grey dealer experience.

It must be one of the cheapest watches in the range stocked in that boutique, but I was given all the time I needed by the very friendly and polite sales assistant.

Very bizarrely, they had one of the discontinued JDM SARB033s in stock too. Alongside it, this felt considerably more refined, a comparison which helped lubricate my wallet action.

Here it is alongside my SNZG13. Think it's safe to say they won't be treading on each other's toes

Received this lovely CWC W10 courtesy of Snoodles.
Considering the increasing price of military vintage watches they are still good value!

Last of the incoming for me for a while and a little break for my Milgauss. Quick pics whilst rehydrating in the champagne bar after this pick-up.

Close. Both the Himq (Sharkey) and the SLA017 are a homage to the original 62MAS.

I really like that Ming, the back view is lovely. Only thing I don’t like about them is the lack of a seconds hand.

I'd usually agree, but I think it suits the styling this time. However, my primary use of a seconds hand is as a running indicator, and I do think this 19.01 could benefit from one of those (given there's no seconds hand).

I wanted one of these since I saw an article on the proto and the sales, but boy is it out of my price league. Cracking looking watch.

It definitely suits the style without but I hate not seeing my watches alive.

I think the second hand is a point of design philosophy. It could be argued that it detracts from the serenity of the dial (I agree with this). The etched markings are a bit tough to see at times which is maybe more an issue, but again I think it's secondary to the fume ish dial. If you want to see another excellent example of this sense of design - look at some of Mosers dials and watches.

As for an indicator of running, it's an excuse to turn the watch over! However no real issue with a power reserve of 100 hrs (I'm getting 110 ish)

Hmm, that was disappointingly predictable. Perhaps it will arrive tomorrow. At least it is in the country, it seemed to spend an inordinately long time in Belgium.

I should have had these on Saturday, but the wife decided to go out!

Soon to be de-stickered and sized properly.

Happy to say it finally arrived today:

    on Flickr

My initial reactions: It's a dainty little thing but I like it; and I really don't like that bracelet. Happily there is a black NATO in the box so I'll get it on as soon as I can.

I think it is in good nick with a couple of dinks on the lugs but the crystal is clear. Not bad for a six year old watch.

It represents a few firsts for me. The first watch I have bought in ten years, the first mechanical and my first one of Eddie's.
