After a rubbish year the wife and I had a weekend away in Wales near Swansea. Did a bit of shopping, well, most of the xmas shopping actually and for once the wife didn't drag me away, rolling her eyes, from the watch shop windows I tend to loiter round when i find them.
In fact she drags me in and gets me to try a few on, then promptly produces a credit card and buys me this - sorry for the ropey iPhone shot.

I've wobbled over Breitling in the past for all the usual reasons, marmite looks, precipitous depreciation, usually eta movements but this seems to address all of these issues for me. A (kind of) in house movement, classic looks, depreciation I can overlook as the watch was bought for a reason, will be being engraved at some point and then handed down to one of my kids at some point so resale is not an issue. The thing is all that was forgotten when it went on my wrist, it just felt right and still does.

Looks like you had a great day out, and congratulations with acquiring the Breitling. I've always had a soft spot for this particular model, I personally think it's on of the best they do.

Very happy with it. Bracelet is good quality, although a faff to adjust! It's got a nice weight to it, super legible. Wears a lot smaller than my speedmaster (short lug to lug combined with small dial).

I presume that was Deacons in Swindon? I've never been a fan of Bremont but liked some of the models on display. I hope Richard does well with them.

Also tried on the BB58 which, with a date complication, would be almost the only watch I would ever need...

Additionally, love the taper on the bracelet. Super comfortable. And you can deactivate the running seconds, little thing that I prefer on a quartz.

I was fortunate enough to enjoy a tour of the Bremont workshops today - superb. It was organised on the back of a military special edition though my watch isn't yet ready. Not to be too disappointed, I purchased this directly from Bremont (a quick shot taken this evening in poor light in my study).

It was interesting to note that Bremont is currently developing an in-house movement that it's believed will be ready in around 2 years.

For a cheap watch, pretty impressed with this little Seiko that I picked up yesterday. 1st one I’ve owned as always ignored them as a brand, but the dial really jumped out at me.

I can see why it jumped out at you, that it is very blue. I like it.

Orient have recently released the Mako 3 series and part of it is a Blue Mother of Pearl / Coral Dial limited edition. Just had to get one. The dial is superb and changes colour every time you expose it to different light situations.

The watch is limited to 2,000 units, which I suppose is quite a lot for an Orient.

Finally, a comparison shot next to the limited edition from the original series.

Update: the watch was returned. The crown action is dreadful and near impossible to screw down. The Mako 1 (the Yellow pictured above) has a superb crown and works a treat, but when the Mako 2 came out the crown was a grumble. The Mako 3 is even worse. It is so small and fiddly and leaves you not sure if it has actually screwed down or not. I couldn't jump in water with this on as I would be afraid that the crown was slightly open.

I got a full refund. It is a georgous looking watch, but unless you have very slim and nimble fingers you might want to pass - not one for the banana finger brigade, which I must be a signed up member of.

Being an absolute sucker for a square G I set myself the task of finding the cheapest DW5600-1E that I could find. For the most basic G-SHOCK there is, it's actually quite tricky to find one at a reasonable price. There's many a dodgy dealer out there. So after much scouring of eBay and other web sites I found a new one at the very reasonable price of £49.99 at JB Watches.

When it arrives, I'll pop it on a combi bracelet and enjoy a basic but entirely honest and classic watch.

Got this from my wife today.

I used to have a MM300 and currently have an SRP777 and this really is the best of both. Prefer it over the MM300.

Which model GS is that? Looks like a sbgr053 that I have but yours has a white date window?

Nice! A brown textured dial I see. I saw a Japan only model in the London Seiko Boutique, it was also 37mm and had an interesting linen dial.

    A project perhaps?

    This little thing arrived recently:

    on Flickr

I knew I was taking a bit of a risk but I couldn't help but push the bid button. It was the simplicity of the dial and the unusual font that got me. I got a bit worried during the delivery period and half expected a horrible monster. Fortunately she isn't that bad. I am fairly sure that the dial has been repainted but they have managed to get inside the numerals and letters. The case does seem to have had a bad case of the brass equivalent to wood worm and she loses about 30s a day. I haven't warmed to her yet mainly because it isn't "right" but also partly due to the fact that the Wife doesn't know about it so I can't wear it that often.

Here are a few closer shots:

    on Flickr

    on Flickr

and the obligatory wrist shot with my current favourite photo-bombing:

    on Flickr

I expect with the correct hands and a second hand I will feel better. Then I'll have a think about what to do with the case. Now where to find replacement hands....

My first proper watch was a 79180 bought in 1995 and sold in 2002, stupidly, to help finish a house build. I replaced it with a silver dialled 79180 a few years ago but it just wasn’t the same. For the last 18mths I have been looking to buy a white dial to changeover, whilst keeping one eye on the market for a nice white 79180. Finally I found one. It seems there are 10x the silver/black BB’s out there for every white, it proved much harder to find than I first expected. Job done, I will be buried with this watch

Been looking for a nice 79280 for a while and sourced this last week- Absolutely love it, so comfortable, was unsure about the Jubilee at first but growing on me- will no doubt add an Oyster at some point though...

Simply stunning. I would have one again (my biggest regret of all I have let go over the years) in a heartbeat. With the date complication I have always preferred it over the Daytona. Yours looks very well looked after and I can understand why you'd never get rid of it.
