A completely unplanned and unexpected new arrival earlier today.

A 1967 Pie Pan 168.010. Cal 564 with larger case, hidden crown and quickset date. Superb condition, Just needs a bit of polywatch on the plexi.

If it feels too big maybe try something different from a NATO? Looks great to me though.

I've had to put it on a NATO to keep it down, the leather it came on is not to my taste at all and made it sit off my wrist. It is a very handsome watch.

Look up dassari vintage rally strap. I've got my racetimer on a brown one. Really helps hold down the bulk and looks like a perfect match. Might work for u. I got mine from strapsco in USA. I can't mind if it was Amazon or the bay!

I'd have had a pan-europ if only it was 40mm. Lovely watches.

The Hammys I've had have been great quality and excellent time keepers.

A pure trip down memory lane. Bought for a pittance at the weekend because it was the first watch I ever had (maybe apart from the date, I don't remember one way or the other). I can still remember finding it at the bottom of my Christmas stocking while the rest of the house was asleep, and hearing it tick. Don't be fooled by the drilled lugs and 'military' dial, it's a tiny Timex, way too small to wear now.

That was my first watch too, and my story eerily echoes yours.

Mine was a Christmas present from my mother. She was a nurse working Christmas Eve, so had told my Grandma to make sure I didn't open it before she got home.

Needless to say, my Grandma put the watch in my stocking and the rest is history.

P.S. imagine what I thought my main present was going to be if THIS was in my stocking!!

What did your mum say to your Grandma when she discovered that you had opened your wonderful present when she wasn't around?

Sold my IWC Portuguese Chronograph 3714-45 (which I still think is one of the most beautiful watches out there but I simply didn't wear it) and have ordered one of these from Iconic:

I've had my eye on one for a while but decided I wouldn't increase the number of watches I own so with the departure of the IWC this will arrive in a week or so.

I would imagine there would have been a little contretemps, but nothing too harsh; my Grandma was wonderful.

Plus Mum no doubt could see how excited I was.

It's one of those memories that is etched in my mind, and the one that sparked my life long love affair with watches.

Nice story. I'm pretty sure that was my main present that year, along with a couple of toys, a satsuma and some walnuts. I don't think my kids would have gone for that!

    Oris Carl Brashear LE Bronze

An impulse buy, saw it on Monday in a local AD and snapped it up. Ordered a couple of 20mm Zulu straps with brass hard wear only to discover that the lug width is 21mm on this one. Assumption is the mother of all f*** ups
Managed to squeeze a 22mm Di-Modell from my parts box between the lugs, there is always room for shrinkage with a leather strap. Loving it so far looking forward to some darker patina forming.

Have loved those Bronze Oris since I saw the first concept pictures. The date complication is a big plus for these. The first classy watch from Oris in some time. Looks great!

Same experience for me, first watch and buried at the bottom of a Christmas stocking!

Fantastic (gold-badge-worthy!) - nicest looking GS I've seen. Could I be very importunate and ask if it is still made, what is the model number, and does the bracelet have micro-adjust?

Thanks - it's the SBGX091 - Japanese Domestic Market model - but still available via Creation

There's not a lot of info on them - but they get a mention in this review of the SBGR077 and SBGR079

No micro adjust on the bracelet though.

    Hope that helps

My first watch too. Bought for my birthday (8 or 9th?). It is clearly where my love of military inspired watches came from as it has all the looks of a classic Smiths/Benrus. I remember going with Mum to H Samuels near the hole in the road (Sheffield) to buy it...

Many thanks. The GS high-end quartz have tempted me for a long time and this sportier version is hard to resist. Shame about the lack of micro-adjust, my wrists vary quite a bit through the year (and even day) so I tend to struggle with fixed length bracelets: bane of my life!

    Delivery on bank-holiday Monday!

Look what showed up this morning from the good people at Iconic Watches?

For me, this is the perfect watch (116200). Perfect size, perfect weight, perfect dial, perfect bracelet. I'm a fan of the Rolex sports models like everyone else (I have a 16710 / Pepsi), but this is the one for me.

Sorry but to my eyes those date magnifier always looks ugly.
But it's MY taste and it's YOUR watch.

Well it hardly compares with a Zeno, does it? At least the crown won't detach from the DJ.

    Stunning watch, enjoy it!

I've always liked the Longines Hydroconquest. At the price point I felt it was a good buy. When the new model came out I actually disliked it. I may not have been the only one as it's now been discontinued and the 'older' large 12,6,9 dial remains.

However, a couple of weeks ago I noticed the red bezel version. I had never considered a red bezel in the past and perhaps that's why I overlooked it. This time something just seemed right about it. I'm not sure what it is exactly but I quite like this dial with the red bezel despite the blue and black versions still not appealing to me. In my opinion, the all brushed bracelet and the ETA 2892 movement are also an improvement over the 12,6,9 dial.

So I decided to look for one, and I managed to find a 39mm Auto (the best size for my 6.5" wrist) in an AD. It's been happily on my wrist since.

I am going to say SDc. Looks like mine with the lume bouncing off the raised crystal.

Edit: but now I can see the "Sub...." so perhaps not....

Had my eye on the PRS-29A for a while now.

Arrived today and it has confirmed two things, 1) I love the watch 2) I really am not keen on NATO straps, so now would be a good time to look for a nice soft leather open ended strap!
